A 'Proctor' was almost like a posh caretaker. He looked after the dorms and oversaw exams etc |

Right, thanks for that, seems strange to go from being in the army to a kind of posh caretaker for a university but there we go. |

Could anybody who currently has access to the 1911 census please look for Henry Edward Wakeling for me. Henry was Ashley Wakeling's brother (so Edward James's son) abd was also in the Royal Artillery. I cannot find him on the 1901 census so I am assuming he was sent abroad so I would be interested in looking at the 1911 census to see if he is in England. Thanks for your help in advance. |

Please can anyone find Edward Wakeling in the 1871 census. I know he enlisted in the Royal Artillery in February of 1871 (see previous page) but I was hoping to find him on the censusso that I could see where he was. According to his military records he never went abroad so he must be in this country somewhere. Thank you in advance for any help that you can give |

Thanks for that, was there an Edward Wakeling or just a James, or could the Edward and James just got swapped around as his middle name was James. He was definitely born in Hoxton so this is actually probably him. |
