Giiny

Hope your son enjoys his college - the first day is always the worst - but for all of them enrolling today - they will all feel the same

Grandson starts "big" school Monday - he is nervous - but I said it is only for the first day - I still remember - with fear - my first day at grammar - it seemed huge and had an upstairs - the prefects petrified me

But liked it when I was one !!!

Whats with 'Giiny'!

Well, I should get to hear all the goings on as I guest lecture at City......ha ha ha

Big school........how scary was that. Ours had just over 2000 students, a big change from my little primary place

......all the same......I hated every minute of it

All here

thinking of either renewing on Findmypast - or trying Ancestry

What are your opinions please - does Ancestry have birth index to date - like FMP fully indexed - or just use freebmd

Renes

as my tree is all but finished ( the remaining few will have to await the 1921 census or are lost forever
- thinking of trying some lookups - to keep me amused thru the winter

Have a go at the 2 week free trial that Ancestry offer.

I prefer A to FMP and yes A have all the BMD records that are available

I like both, each has something to offer,so I have both.

I dont buy expensive CARS, clothes etc ,or go out much, so I have both and prob cost less than what a lot of people spend on clothes in 3 months.

Its part of my birthday/christmas present from HID,he gets me nowt and I spend the money saved towards subs..

HOW BIG IS YOURS?

Via Ancestry's Recent Member Connect Activity feature I have just been notified that another member has downloaded some census information about someone (Not a Jones I might add) who appears in my family tree on Ancestry. When this happens, out of curiosity, I usually take a peek at the other persons tree and profile just to see what else it might contain that might be of interest.

I discovered that the family tree to which my ancestors census record has now been attached contains no fewer than 190,720 individuals and that 45,457 records were attached to the tree.

Now either the tree owner is a member of a remarkably large family or is a fantasist rather than a genealogist. What is your guess?

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 3 Sep 2010 12:57

fantasist

Most people who boast about "big"things are in my opinion..

I only have 120 on my tree that is online.

Never counted the ones in my paper tree, but def under 1000.

Fans

If you had to choose one - which would you choose - I have always use FMP so I find that easier - but I suppose when I used to Ancestry it would be the same in time - my only concern with Ancestry is you put in Fred Bloggs 1901 and then get responses Fred Smith 1892 and Johnathon Bloggs 1914 followed by Emily Brands 1809

FMP just says no records - refine your search

Is this common or just my lack of knowledge of their search procedures

Ginny - not sure as I am registered guest - it will permit me a free trial

Thanks for responding both

Hobsons/Sophies choice hmmmm??

I like FMP cos it lists all the occupations so if you dont want to look at every image and write /type them out you dont have to.
Passenger lists/Chelsea pensioners Overseas births etc
etc.

Incoming passengers,London marriages and baptisms(mothers side all Londoners)and Canada US, census I like Ancestry for ,and they often have census missing on FMP.

Nope, cant choose as I dont have to.

You can take out monthly subs at Ancestry as well, when you want them I believe, you could try that Renes...

Actually thats not a bad idea - think I will renew FMP and take a monthly sub on Ancestry - if I cannot get the 2 free weeks trial

Thanks sweetie

You have a memory like an elephant Fanny.

Jonesey, I have been asked some questions in the past but how very rude of you to ask how big mine is

It's all manageable thank you very much...

.......my Flanagan's are ship shape, my Fearn's are neat and tidy and my Whiteley's are very perky

I hope that satisfies your curiosity

Sorry I did'nt notice the Brooks one till too late Gins

I like Ancestry for the London marriages and Baptisms found loads of ancestors on that.
Not much point in me having the overseas stuff as only had one rellie that lived in Australia and that was my dads sister...no convicts in my family.
Only have 1911 on FMP but may upgrade it as I have saved a fortune now I have stopped gambling and taken up this hobby

I must say I am tempted to join challenge jackpot when I see the roulette wheel, but I know I will lose it all.
Oldest daughter who is 19 started training to work for a well known betting office this week, just hope she does'nt get the bug.

I have just made an email enquiry to my local council asking them where they purchase the bulbs for the street lights in Sheffield

The reason being I inform them.....the light at the bottom of my drive has been on permanently, night and day for 12 years! I have reported this problem 6 times the first being in the last century

I know this is not a priority as there are more important things like watering hanging baskets but if you could get around to turning the bl##dy thing off before the end of this century I would be most grateful
