Trying to find out about husbands maternal grandmother.Him and his sister was told she died at or after the birth of their mother. We now know that she went to America after 1912 and died in America in 1929 and buried in Milton Cemetary. We can't find out why she let her mother-in-law bring up her daughter .She was married and her married name was Thayre although on the marriage certificate the spelling was Thayer. The certificate states her own father was dead. Not very good at this.ANY HELP PLEASE.

Patricia,

What is it that you are clicking on when nothing happens?

Patricia

Hello Jonesey, I am trying to click where it said click to view. Fairly new to this so probably doing it wrong. Tricia.

alviegal Report 4 Jul 2010 22:01

Hi Tricia,
I got the marriage from http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl and Jonesy's came from findmypast.

You actually need to go on these sites to use the click to view. In freebmd's case, it is only the printed pages with names and register numbers. In findmypast's case, it will show you the original image but you need credits to view it.

Has George got an occupation noted, even though he is deceased?

Hi Liz, Many thanks for that, I did wonder. The occupation on the marriage certificate is carpenter. Tricia.

I'm having trouble finding a family that fits what you know. You mention a mother in law with the daughter.
Do you have names for them and how do you know Alice emigrated after 1912?

Have found a couple of possible matches emigrating in l9ll - they had a maid with them. If you would like a copy, please let me know and I will post it on this thread.

Hi again, we have a post card book that belonged to my husbands mother that contained some cards from her mother(Alice) who obviously from the content loved her very much, but they are only up to 1912. Possibly there were some after that date but not that we found. Most were post marked Sutton in Surrey. In one she talks about very busy in the business. Her mother-in-law (my husbands mothers grandmother) was called Kate Thayre nee Charlwood. Many Thanks for help so far. Tricia.

Patricia Report 4 Jul 2010 23:26

Hello again, I have realised that I don't think I have said that Alice's maiden name was Lee. Some of the feed back has shown her maiden name but sorry for being remiss. A copy of the possible matches of emigration in 1911 will be appreciated please. I will unearth the post cards just to check that there are definately cards dated 1912 and post marked this country. Many thanks, Tricia.

I have found Kate and William on most census. They were at Worth, where my husband's paternal family came from, and in l9ll lived around the corner from his maternal grandparents, his mother and her brothers. Will ask some of his relatives if they know the name. Would you like copies of the census - Liz

Hello Liz, Thank you for your hard work. I looked through post card book last night and some of the post cards were not franked so can only think they were sent in envelope or taken to her.The latest franked ones were two in January 1912 posted in Sutton. The post cards were full of love for her daughter and Alice also seemed to be on good terms with her mother-in-law (Kate). We found out that my Husbands mother was called Topsy after we cleared her house.Too late to ask her about it.On the post cards it was not until she was maybe threeish. No one new her real name was Beatrice either.Only knew her as Frances Winifred. Tricia.
