I am trying to find more about William Bower (b1807 Crosland Moor, Huddersfield, married Sarah Lindley). His father may have been Thomas and one sibling could possibly be John (lodger with William 1851 census). I know quite a bit about William's descendents but need to know more about his parents and siblings. Pease help |

Hi Flick, no such luck - Bridget, eldest born 1833. I have searched in Ancestry for Parish baptisms etc but got nowhere. Also a Peter Lindley gave me some of his notes (done in the 90's) where he tried to establish a link with the LINDLEYS - he identified offsprings and mentioned Thomas and John but no more |

Interesting Janet, a Jonas Bower 1938 is a son of William. Is he named after his grandfather or uncle or is Jonas a common name. |

I would say that Jonas is not such a popular name, compared with William, and that is why I think the connection I have found is valid. As I think about it I think that Jonas and Robert will be siblings and that William will be the son of Jonas, just going on the date of births from the census......just checking Rudstone it is showing in the East Riding of Yorks, near Brid-JLe |

Just remembered another snippet, somewhere I noticed, possibly on William Bower's family a child called Wright Bower and I wondered where the name came from, so now I feel confident that I have given you the correct information and that Jane Wright was the child paternal grandmother.-JLe |

Found this on IGI Family search. It's possible that William was born in Bradford and taken to Almondbury, there is a district of Bradford named Almondbury also.. |

In answer to your question whether the names have been used earlier it list Jonas having a sibling called Bridget Bower bapt 26th Oct 1781 at Rudston along with a brother called William Bower bapt 25th Oct 1787 and a John Bower bapt 7th Sept 1785 again bapt at Rudston. The marriage for William Bower and Jane Wright is entered at 23rd Dec 1779 at Rudston, suggesting that someone may have previously researched the family. The idea that Robert is an uncle is much better as I found Jonas's father deceased by 1796, which would have left the family of 7 children fatherless and may be a reason for them to go (return) to Huddersfield. -JLe |

To Sue in Leeds, it isn't a downer about Rudston being in East Yorkshire, the person Robert Bower (possible relative of William Bower)living in Crosland Moor came from Rudston and that is what has made the connection. .....also if I were a betting person I would risk a penny on saying there isn't an Almondbury in Bradford.... but I could be wrong -JLe |
