What was John's declared age on the marriage cert?

If Elizabeth was born in 1881, no way on earth could she have married in 1891

I have James and Harriet living at Kensington Barracks, London in 1871.
Half the page of the census appears to be missing so Harriet's name appears as ??itt Cooke

I deleted as that was a Harriet and John Cooke not James!!

My mistake!!

Where was your Elizabeth born please in 1881 because if Harriet was born about 1837 then she would have been 56 when Elizabeth was born. I don't think so.......................................

I wonder if the listing of James's occupation as Shoemaker on the marriage cert could actually have been intended to refer to Harriet's father?

Northants (her birthplace) was/is a shoemaking County.

Perhaps the vicar/registrar was 'confused'................

Harriet's father is given as John Oliver Baxter - Occupation Engineer. He is an even bigger mystery. Cannot find his name listed anywhere!!!

Afraid you don't - certs only came into being in 1837 when the GRO was started
