Paula,

Very interesting, Samuel's grandson was called James Bennett McDougal, is there any way to find out who Samuels mother may have been? Thanks

Good morning Paula.
My cousins and I have been trying for years to trace my Grandfather George Leleszes (1889) who was born in Russia, escaped to Poland and eventually ended up in, (we believe), Motherwell where a family named Campbell cared for him. He very soon changed his name to Campbell before travelling down to St Helens in Lancashire where he married my Grandmother, Hannah Holden (1889), in 1910. My father and his siblings have 'Leleszes known as Campbell' on their birth and marriage certificates but my generation have just dropped Leleszes. It is a very long shot but could you throw any light onto our fruitless search.
Kindest Regards Kathleen Simm (nee Campbell)

Sorry to say it does indeed sound unlikely you will have any success unless you come across someone who knew him in Scotland.

There are no birth, marriages or deaths on Scotlands People for Leleszes and a quick peek on 1901 census for that general area Lanark shows 6352 matches for Campbell families, not that he would have been there in 1901 but just to illustrate how difficult this is.

Just another case of how good it is to talk to your elders while trying to get details before it's too late.
I had the same problem with my OH's great grandparents who came from Belarus and Lithuania with the grandmother being unwilling to talk about them, although we have recently been able to unearth all of "skeletons" !!

Good luck.
