But there were no penalties until 1875 for NOT registering births, so the child in question may simply not have been registered

Referring back to Jane Greenwood, only two marriages show on Freebmd to Davies... not them.

There is NO birth in 1884 in Lancashire for the names Albert William Davies

I have found Jane on 1861 census living in Ashton Under Lyne age 4 and again in 1901 aged 43 but don't know who she is living with

There isn't death on freebmd in 1905 for Albert Davies aged 20 or 21
