I'm still curious about this one:

Name: Bridget Warwick
Age: 70
Estimated birth year: abt 1781
Relation: Head
Where born: America in The British Amey, Canada
Civil parish: Chelsea
County/Island: Middlesex

In 1841 in Chelsea she is married to James - she was born in Scotland, he was born not in county but in England. (I suspect the "Scotland" is not correct -- the "S" might really be an "F" for Foreign Parts, I think.) They're both shown as aged 50 in 1841, but it is certainly the same Bridget as in 1851.

Might James be a brother of our Joseph, and have married Bridget in Canada?

Speculation ...

- edit - the births that appear to be them are consistent with that James having a military career:

Birth/Christening, 1770 - 1810, British Isles
Father: James Warwick
Mother: Bridget

1. MARY ANN WARWICK Christening: 12 NOV 1809 Saint David, Exeter, Devon, England
2. ROSE WARWICK Christening: 22 APR 1803 Mallow Parish, Cork, Ireland

What this does do is give Janet a whole mess of potential names to search trees here at GR for.

Ooh, MM, crossing in the post again, with possibly related thoughts!

That Guy Warwick must be a brother of our Joseph, eh? Born 1786ish ...

Hmm ...

GUY WARWICK
Christening: 30 JUL 1786 Saint Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire, England
Father: RICHARD WARWICK
Batch No.: J009624

Cousin? ...

Only other Warwick in that batch:

JOHN WARWICK
Christening: 09 JUN 1783 Saint Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire, England
Father: RICHARD WARWICK

MM -- I've edited my post with the possible Leeds death in it, on p.1, to reflect that death.

This birth would be an excellent match for that death:

JOSEPH WARWICK
Birth: 13 SEP 1791
Christening: 18 SEP 1791 Castle Gate Meeting-Independent, Nottingham, Nottingham, England
Father: JOSEPH WARWICK
Mother: BETTY
Batch No.: C058101

- but he's in Nottingham in 1841 so I leave him here to rule him out.

I have to get some work done so shall leave you to it, MM.

Doing first things last, though, ... Janet has Frederick, George, Guy and Joseph, born Canada, in her tree. Names would have been useful ...

Someone else has the David born 1828 whom Ann o' GG found. I would really surmise they are related in some way, now that it seems there were other related Warwicks in the vicinity earlier. (Guy is too unusual a name not to be related to the Joseph who had son Guy, e.g.)

That person and two other people also have a couple of other Warwicks born around the same time.

- edit - Interestingly, Janet also has John 1795 and Guy 1780 born in Montreal.

Full disclosure does help so much.

John and Guy born in Canada, but not Joseph? Are they brothers, and was the father in the British military? Mysterious.

Anyhow, I might have surmised that Joseph was from somewhere other than Leeds, and Leeds is where Elizabeth went when she returned home because that was where her family was, but the coincidence of surnames would be rather too coincidental that way.

Uh oh! William Warwick and Alice Chisholm had their children baptised on their wedding day. They were:
Esther born 3 April 1831
William, 3 June 1833
Ann, 23 March 1835
All baptised 28 Oct. 1836 by D. Robertson.
Sponsors Sidney Chapman, Sophia Artindale, Ann Bell.

Heh.

Who is this recurring Ann Bell, any idea?

Some info here about Yorkshiremen Guy & Joseph Warwick operating as Guy Warwick & Co. opened the Pheonix Foundry on west side of Montreal in 1817.

Yes, Janey, I've been wondering who Ann Bell was. She was a witness or sponsor for almost every event. And yes, saw your edits about Janet's tree. Hope she didn't already have all this info, it was tiring. Most of the records had no first name so I had to go to the original every time. I'm pooped, think I'll quit.

Well, a PM reply from Janet -- I explained about the Reply button but it didn't take, I think. ;)

-------------------

As you surmised ( lovely word) I'm a newbie and didn't expect this response. Not sure if my reply is on the thread but timing is awful as I'm trying to sort out my income tax re home reno tax break. Big hint to where I now live.

Glad you are all enjoying yourselves wish I could join the party!

----------------------

We self-employed Canucks have until June 15 for that. ;)

So we'll hope to hear back a little later. Janet, please do reply in the thread -- click the purple Reply button up at the top as you read this.

When you add a message here, MM and I will see it, because when we click on our own "My threads" link, it will be bumped up to the top of the list to show there's something new. As you can see from the time stamps on our posts, we did spend a fair bit of time, so we'll be watching and waiting!

Thanks for all the responses lots to look at and mull over....
Bear with me I'll get the hang of this if I pay attention instead of trying to multi task....
Who would have known that a Google book search would be so useful? The author of the book has a reputation for meticulous research and references to archival sources. I'm looking forward to reading a copy sometime at a reference library.

Does anybody care to speculate on whether garrison families and tradespeople had much interaction in Montreal in this time period ? Before I had access to the Drouin records I had wondered if Joseph Henry who became a pianoforte manufacturer might have been in the British army.

I just opened up my Warwick file and found I'd made a note about a marriage bond for William and Alice.
For any other newbies trawling, marriage bonds can be found sometimes at the www.collectionscanada.gc.ca website.

goodnight folks

I won't be returning to the board for about six weeks but .....
If you visit this board after investigating a "hot match" the key to the possibility of a connection is that you have a relative born in Canada and a match through the Drouin records. The UK census links have been fairly useful particularly for following up on Drouin records. So far no Warwick hot match indicates any connection to Canada.
If Joseph and Guy Warwick were operating the Phoenix Foundry in Montreal in 1817 a couple of the possible older siblings for Joseph Warwick ( b Canada 1821) mentioned in the thread have to be researched further.
Thanks once again for all the help.
