I am now looking for the deaths of James Brodie DOB(1876) and his wife Anne(nee Blakey). It is possible that they both died in USA, probably sometime after 1885 - James is the brother of John Alexander Brodie Your help is always appreciated thanks Eileen
I AM RESEARCHING MY HUSBANDS FAMILY TREE My husband is a direct descendant of John Alexander Brodie(he is my husbands Great Great Uncle) 1858-1934. We have some history, and we are aware of his achievments as an engineer for Liverpool, this is well documented, in fact he was the engineer on the mersey tunnel. We would like to know of his life from 1858 his year of birth. Your help would be appreciated regards Eileen

Eileen..Plenty of info on the web...
Also has a street named after him...
BRODIE AVENUE 18 & 19 John Alexander Brodie, Liverpool's City Engineer (1898-1925). In 1891, he invented and patented football nets and, in 1901, he patented the idea of prefabricating houses from reinforced concrete slabs. He also introduced the idea of using central reservations for tramcars. The first reserved track, Edge Lane to Broad Green, was completed in 1914.

Brodie was also interested in town planning and this was recognised in 1912 when he was asked to help select the site of and plan New Delhi. He visited India twice for this purpose and in 1931 was invited to the official opening ceremony by the Viceroy owing to the high regard that Edwin Lutyens, the chief planner had for him.
He served as president of the Institution of Civil Engineers between 1920 and 1921, becoming the first local authority engineer to receive the accolade. He was also an Associate Professor of Engineering at Liverpool University and vice-president of the Liverpool Self-Propelled Traffic Association which would later become a constituent of the Royal Automobile Club.
After his death in 1934 Liverpool City Council named Brodie Avenue in his honour.
