On the first marriage certificates John and Mary Smith are the witnesses and on the second it is the new in-laws. The birth certificates give the mother's name as either Sarah or Ann. |

Is there any clue in the father's occupation? |

My great grand-father was called George Smith and his father was called John Smith . George was born 1849 or 1848 as I have his marriage and death certificates and I have located him on the censuses. I have 3 birth certificates for him and all have the father's name as John. How do I know which is the right one ? Any ideas anyone ? |
