Just to say, for Alison's benefit, I've also looked, as I am sure others have, and found nothing more than Helen and Patricia have.

Hello Alison-

To help further we really need a bit of feed back and some answers to Patricia's questions

Father's occupation
Victor's occupation
Do you know of any children from his first marriage?
Where has the date of birth come from?

..Hi to all those helping me, this is fantastic!! Right let me start with as much as i possibly know, my Nan and Victor Charles Webb married on 10th April 1937, he was 46yrs old she was 32. He was a widower, a Consulting Engineer and his father, an Engineer was deceased at this time and his name was Thomas Henry Webb. Their residence at the time of marriage was 17 Gordon Cresent Hayes. Now, my mum was not born till 1940 by which time they were living in Lancashire. She was the second youngest of four children, only three were by Victor the eldest, a boy,was born in 1934.
My Mums initials are the same as her dads,Valerie Cynthia, and his birthday was May 8th,the same as my brothers.
My Mum always thought he was, in her words, senile as he used to be gone for days but when he was home sit and talk to his self (i thought he sounded more like an alcoholic).
One day when she was around 6yrs old she remembers her mum taking him a cup of tea in bed then coming down stairs and taking her, her 2 sisters and brother and moving to London. They lived for some time in a rest centre in Eaton place, Sloan square, before finding somewhere more permenant. Apparently her Dad tracked them down and they used to have to go and visit him but these visits didn't last too long and they were told they were not allowed to see him.
As the years went by and my mum was courting she would often see him if she was on a bus or from a distance but she would never talk to him because she thought she would get in trouble for doing so.
I have looked at all the censors looking for a birth place etc and no luck and i also would like to know who his 1st wife was and did they have any children.
Sorry to have waffled on abit but i hope some of this may help or know where to go from here. Ali xx

Does Charley, machine operator, become an engineer, or is that a little far-fetched?

Gritty Report 9 Mar 2010 22:52

This could be the Charley on the 1901 and 1911 census above, baptised 1887- so if the 1891 birth date is correct I'm not sure it's the right one:

Charles Webb
Baptism 31 Jul 1887
Father:Henry Thomas Webb,
Mother:Lucy Webb
St John the Evangelist Lambeth

Alison

Alison Report 10 Mar 2010 10:15

He went by the name of Billy Webb, i'm not sure what surname he was registered under. My nan was pregnant with him when the father was killed on a motor bike, the only reason she too was not on the bike was because of how heavily pregnant she was..
My Mum has not had any contact with Billy since her Mums death in the mid 70's as he was wicked to her and her sisters when they were young, hitting them and so on. When i 1st started doing the family tree she said not to bother trying to find him as she hoped he had died and for her to talk like this just confirmed how horrible he must be.
He married someone called Maureen in the late 50's and they had 4 boys and 1 girl.
Victors name was definately Victor Charles..not charles etc.The closest i have got was the 1911 census with Thomas Henry, head, having a Victor, son, as a visitor from New Zealand, was this him?

Yes she was

I think he must have died around the end of the 50's early 60's. I also believe he was homeless and living in South East London area. My search is really to find out about the very early years of his life and where he came from etc
