Hi Dea,
Dentist went as well as can be expected! Had the nerve removed, got the taste of cloves in my mouth now until next week when I get root filled or something like that. I couldn't get out of there quick enough so wasn't really listening!!
Oh how I love the dentist.....

Owww's your toothache Lorna (tee hee) ?
I hope he didn't pull them all out?
I thought I had toothache a few weeks ago but it turned out to be trigeminal neuralgia - If you know about this you really know what 'agonising' pain is !!
Hope you have it sorted!

Yes that would be him, I looked for that with the different spelling aswell but couldn't find that one. I had found the marriage but wasn't certain but that absolutely must be him, so they travelled from Ireland to London/South Coast by the looks of it then headed to Manchester. I can't believe I missed it!
Well done Dea that has answered who his parents are and gives more siblings etc.
Now i need to find where in Ireland the parents came from!!
Oh well I am offt o the Dentist, got agonising tooth ache.
Thank you very much Ladies for all the detective work. It is very much appreciated.

Out of curiosity I had a look at your previous thread regarding James.
I am not sure why we are looking at this one in the Institution - Isn't this 'your' James on 1871: ??
1871 England Census about James Foren Name: James Foren Age: 10 Estimated birth year: abt 1861 Relation: Son Father's Name: Eugene Mother's Name: Mary Ann Gender: Male Where born: London, England Civil parish: Manchester Ecclesiastical parish: St Georges Town: Manchester County/Island: Lancashire Country: England Registration district: Manchester Sub-registration district: St George ED, institution, or vessel: 6 Household schedule number: 44 Household Members: Name Age Eugene Foren 36 Tailor, b Ireland Mary Ann Foren 37 b Ireland **James Foren 10 b London Margaret Ann Foren 7 b Manchester Eugene Foren 1 b Manchester Winifred Colling 40 Ellen Smith 38 at 66 Pump Street

His marriage:
James Foran m Mary Johnson Year of Registration: 1881 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Manchester (1837-1924) County: Lancashire Volume: 8d Page: 413 ..............................
You had already established that this was him on 1891, I think?
1891 England Census about James Foran Name: James Foran Age: 30 Estimated birth year: abt 1861 Relation: Head Spouse's name: Mary Gender: Male Where born: London, England Civil parish: Manchester Ecclesiastical parish: St George County/Island: Lancashire Country: England Registration district: Manchester Sub-registration district: St George ED, institution, or vessel: 5 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age James Foran 30 Tailor, b London Mary Foran 30 Mary A Foran 9 James Foran 8 Margtury Foran 6 Owen Foran 3 James Foran 1 9, Upper Lewis St.
Source Citation: Class: RG12; Piece: 3242; Folio 100; Page 25; GSU roll: 6098352.
As he was a Tailor, like his father, and born in London on both census, it seems likely that this is the same James.

Good Morning Erin & Dea,
Firstly Dea that death looks right so that rules the birth out ,it was questionable. Leads me back to think the Irish birth place must be right.
Erin, James Foran aged 8 appears in an institute in Liverpool Stated as Born Ireland, assuming they are correct about his birth place, therefore he must have arrived at some point before 1871 census was taken. Would a child travel alone or would he be with relatives/parents? There are not many James Foran's on census for when he was adult. This has lead back to Manchester so can only assume he arrived in Liverpool docks then found family in Manchester as there were a number of Foran families there.
I'm not sure where to look next for any more info. I think i'm confusing myself now!!

Ah I see!
So IF Julia was a sibling then the chances are there was a mistake with James' birth place, it could hav ebeen his parents were born in Ireland he may have been born in Liverpool, but Julia could just be a Cousin or other relative but worth a look......

Hi Dea,
I think i will have to join ancestry then, sounds alot more detailed. I would like to trace the journey from Ireland to the UK as James was my Mother in Laws Great Grandfather she is interested to find out the area they were from. From what I have seen alot of Irish Forans headed to Liverpool and America. If I can locate passenger lists then I may be able to see who he travelled with.
Another thought is in the Institution that he was in in 1871 would there be admission records do we know?
How confusing- which avenue to explore first.
Thanks for all your time and hard work it is very much appreciated, also any other trains of thought that I can explore would be useful too!

Hi Erin, Apologies I was having coffee!! The basics are-
Ellen Foran m Joseph Sutcliffe 1916
Ellen Parents- Mary & JAMES FORAN Both Born c1862
Obviously lots of children and census info inbetween, again James is a common name but this would tie in with family tales and dates etc.

Hi Susan,
I may be wrong but I suspect that Lorna is viewing the census's the 'expensive way', i.e. through GR site.
I don't think this allows for looking at next/previous page.
