Hi all, I am also related to Richard Rowe born Rattlesden in 1792. He was my 3x Great grandfather, he Married Mary Stiff in 1822 the next year he came out of the army.. I found out his army records after a bit of reseach and dead ends..It very interesting he spent 13 years and 210 days in the Queen's royals 2nd foot regiment. He joined in Ipswich in 1809 aged 17 but said he was 14, I think it was because he was short.. He went on to fight with the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular war in Spain, at the battle of Vittoria in 1813 and the pyrenees in 1814. The regiment was then sent to the west indies for over 5 years and he spent the last year and a half in Dublin before being discharded for being undersized..He was only 5foot 3 and a half inches tall, grey eyes and brown hair. his conduct was very irregular as his officer said..Mist have fell asleep on guard duty a lot.. His daughter Harriet married my ancestor John Sparke and they ended up with 15 children together, one of which was my gt. grandad Arthur Sparke.. :-D |
