All better now are we sweets?? No more soggy tissues and bottles of nasty couching mixture needed?
I also solved another beastly one for Carol while you were lying in that sick bed....;)
Now if I could only do the same with a William Henry Stallard 1873 Bristol blokie (sighted on 1911 and then vamoose !)for my sons best friend I would be a happy bunny .....sigh

I'm just slogging through dozens of open GR tabs I left behind when I wandered off and got miserably sick ... and I refresh this one and find that Fanny came through as usual. Kudos and all that stuff!

I had the same problem with my grandfather. Everyone thought he was born in 1900 but I couldnt find him on the 1901 census so I ordered his wedding cert which again said he was born in 1900.... so I ordered a birth cert of someone who tied up with his siblings and yes this was him born 1897. So its a puzzle why he lied maybe because it would have made him 11 years older than my grandmother? we will never know now

I do thankyou so much!! as I said I am a novice - but I do enjoy problem solving and was getting to the stage that my sentimentality was getting in the way of reason!
So glad you agree with outcome (a little!)
I began on World Family Tree Maker way back when my grandaughters father died. (thought it good idea to do family tree for her)
This was also the time when I did not know what the internet was! and 'uploaded' all my hard work to them. changed computers, moved house, then moved country!! Then restarted the interest for my mum - had forgotten the email address and password for WFT - but I CAN BUY IT FROM THEM!! again thankyou carol bampton

But where he is in 1881 or 1891 is anyones guess. And no deaths for that Benjamin with father James on 1871 either,so where is he hiding?

Thank you Carol. No address given for him then?
In 1851 Martha and Benjamin are in West Brom area. And I have to agree that the fathers name may be wrong, its just that he has him as a labourer instead of coal miner whih is what this Benjamin was, although I guess Mining is labourering in a way but they normally liked to say miner on certs as it had more standing.
Address: Church Vale, West Bromwich
PITT, Benjamin Head Married M 33 1818 Coal Miner Wednesbury Staffordshire PITT, Martha Wife Married F 30 1821 Wednesbury Staffordshire PITT, James Son M 8 1843 Wednesbury Staffordshire PITT, Samuel Son M 4 1847 Wednesbury Staffordshire PITT, William Son M 2 1849 Wednesbury Staffordshire PITT, Elizabeth Mother Widow F 77 1774 Blind Wednesbury Staffordshire
I think I am going for a second opinion ,If I can get one. I can not find Benjamin with a father James in the correct place or time at all. But alll the ones with parents Benjamin and Martha sit right to me.

marriage cert West Bromich - the church of St. James Langley in the county of Worcester No9. - September 17th 1894 - Benjamin Pitt (31yrs) Bachelor, / Labourer / Chapel St. Rounds Green / father listed as - James Pitt (deceased) Labourer
Hagar Dean (40yrs) Widow / no profession / Chapel St. Rounds Green / father listed as - Soloman Danks / Engine Driver
Witness; John Henry Danks & Hannah Summerfield (X her mark)
I am a complete novice! - but I have a gut feeling (maybe sentimental!!) that fathers name is wrong and should read 'Benjamin' (not James Pitt)
as that would give his mother as 'Martha'
Benjamin Pitt only ever had one daughter named Martha Edith - born 27.2.1896

Maybe father Benjamin had a second name of James and was known by it at home so he thought it was his name ? Mistakes are made on certs, one was on my own birth cert, which was later rectified.
But all the way through the census that I find him on and believe to be him he is in the same reg place of Dudley, where he says he was born. In fact there IS no other really to suit.
Its just this 1891 census that puts a spanner in the works. So please can you give me all the details from the marrige cert, witnesses and address he married from and was he a widower or bachelor.
1891 Same Address as 1871...: Howles Row, Sedgley, Brierley

thankyou( FBGL)
I had a feeling the mothers name would be Martha as his only child he named Martha Edith (b. 27.3.1896, netherton) On marriage cert with hagar dean he lists his father (sorry his fathers name is listed as James Pitt (deceased) Labourer - is it likely to be wrong?!
IF his mother is Martha then father should be Benjamin?? as of 1861 cesus RG 9/2043 Tipton?? I am giving numbers but they are only from what I've printed from this site!!

Nasty job I think that would have been Ann...
this 1871 census keeps drawing me as his mothers name is Martha? Although in later census Benjamin jnr is down as a coal miner, but he could have had to change his job for some reason. But this is the only one that fits with the 1901 going back through the census, with varying birth years between 1861 and 1864.
Address: Howls Row, Sedgley
Registration District: Dudley
PITT, Benjamin Head M 50 1821 Staffordshire PITT, Martha Wife F 50 1821 Staffordshire PITT, William Son M 22 1849 Staffordshire PITT, Benjamin Son M 11 1860 Staffordshire
But his fathers name and occupation from his marriage cert would confirm or not. Also was he single or widowed when he married Hagar? As in 1891 I think he may have been with a wife called Elizabeth?
But I will wait for the marriage cert details before looking into this further. Unless I missed them?
But if his father was Benjamin on his marriage cert then this would be his birth.
