I'm just doing this to get a handle on Ada by her family background

Births Mar 1872 (>99%)
Horsted Ada Kensington 1a 141

Ada Horsted
Age: 9
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1872
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: James
Mother's Name: Elizth.
Gender: Female
Where born: Hammth, Middlesex, England
Civil parish: Harmmersmith
County/Island: London
Country: England
Street Address: 170 Latymer Rd
Occupation: Scholar
Registration district: Fulham
Sub-registration district: St Paul Hammersmith
ED, institution, or vessel: 43
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members:
Name Age
James Horsted 44
Elizth. Horsted 44
Jane Horsted 19
Willm. Horsted 17
Rose Horsted 13
Ada Horsted 9
Arthur Horsted 8
Albert Horsted 1

By 1891 Ada is married, Elizabeth has died, the two youngest Arthur and Albert are lodging in Hammersmith and I haven't located Father James yet but he has probably re-married.
I'm struggling to locate Ada and her husband (whoever he is) in 1891 which is what we really want.

Morning Astra, i do appreciate your efforts with this i just hope we crack it some day, anyway i found a james walker in prison in 1891 census in bodmin, he was born c1868 and came from west ham i wondered if he had any connection with our family, i just put the ino on the boards and a kind lady has told me he was sentenced to 12yrs so probably not connected. It's very strange that we cant find ada in 1891 census

I also notice on the 1901 census Ada says her age is 27 making a birth year of 1874 and that she was born in west ham

Morning Christie
The 1891 is really bugging me although it's not unusual to not be able to find people just after they married, it's the one we really need.
I did note that Ada says she was born West Ham in 1874 but dates and places of birth are open to interpretation in all of the census records. Many just gave the place they were living as their place of birth and some only had a general idea of the year they were born so I'm not too concerned about that. I'm relatively sure that the one born in 1872 is her because there aren't that many Horsted's around and I think that she named Elizabeth your Nan after her mother.
I have to go and grocery shop (deep joy!) but I will be back later and will trawl through the 1891 again in the hope of finding either her or Walter/Albert/James (whoever).

I think that the only way we are ever going to resolve this is by purchasing the marriage certificate of Ada Horsted and Albert then at least we will know his age (hopefully) and occupation and his father's name and occupation. It should help us to decide whether or not he is Walter/James and if not at least we can discount it.
What do you think?

Potty Report 15 Nov 2009 16:30

Buy certs on line from the GRO - if you have the full index reference it costs £7.

Astra

Astra Report 15 Nov 2009 16:30

Oh my goodness.....no!! Don't do that!

If you have a credit or debit card order through the GRO online for £7 and never pay more than that.

If you are not sure how PM me and I will talk you through it.

Christie, my nan was Ada Elizabeth Walker 19 father Albert Frederick Walker (deceased) Carman, 1909 on the marriage cert who married to Thomas Augustus Lawrence 22, stoker, father William James Lawrence, Stonemason still living 1909. It is correct that Walter is on the census as Head in 1901. I have been doing most of my tree on Ancestry so I will let you see that if you would like. I never knew that nan had a sister but since found out my sister knew. Grandad always said he was found on a doorstep with his brother and my dad showed me where! (untrue) I have had to do this off my own back and have had contact with a few relatives who have found other bits out.

p.s My nan remarried about 1968 aged 74 I think it was and I cant find that, I was at the wedding to a man of about 84 she met in the home she was living in. My dad died in 2003 and I was hoping my mum could help but shes 85 and cant remember much. She didnt recognise the picture of Elizabeth that Maria put on here or the family. Nan wanted to be a Walker again so think she did marry to do that before she died. Pain in the backside really!! We lived in Durban Road and your nan lived in Corporation Street so why we never had contact is anyones guess! Something about being a Ferris my dad didnt like apparently lol Hope this helps
