Wow! amazing reply!! it is very confusing though... To make it clearer:
My nan told me her granma (my great great nan) name was Ethel Mary Haysman and that she cam from Sussex. My nans mums name(ethels daughter) is Edith Griffin born in 1906 in Edmonton. she doesnt know her grandas name though...never met him. so yea sum kind of affair is possibly correct! but any more help would be amazing :D

Linda

Linda Report 4 Nov 2009 23:17

a quick look at the original scan on freebmd gives ethels name as heaysman??

Marriages Sep 1895 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Collyer Alfred Edward Edmonton 3a 448
Heaysman Ethel Mary Edmonton 3a 448
Hills Sarah Edmonton 3a 448
Smith Alfred Edmonton 3a 448

So that is what you'd need to send for. I'd give the childrens birth certs a go first!!

To track Ethel Mary Haysman back I think it would be best to get the marriage cert to Alfred Smith in 1895?
With the exact spellings as given on the refs.

No marriage showing to go with the banns and also no birth of a william Griffin in 1900/01/02 in Edmonton,no William Haysmans reged there either, but lots of little William Smiths of course.

The first childs cert should be interesting:

Name: Charles William G Griffin
Year of Registration: 1896
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Edmonton
County: Essex, Hertfordshire, Middlesex
Volume: 3a
Page: 474 (click to see others on page)

On the 1901 all I can see is a Charles W with a father charles e and a mother francis crossed out, then fanny written above?

Cheers Linda :)

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 4 Nov 2009 21:20

No you havent Linda....

Thats what I think it says on the 1911 now you put the name Susanna forward, and it does say they were married 20 yrs.

But maybe he went to write Ethel and then changed it to Sussannah as an afterthought???
Anybody wanna look send mail addy!

Linda

Linda Report 4 Nov 2009 21:16
