On 1861 - Thomas's family (minus Thomas) is living at 3 Brown's Terrace.

Charlotte is living next door at No. 2 with her parents Thomas + Sarah + family.

Unless you have 'pots' of money to waste Stephen, I would hold off from buying that cert as it will only prove that the Charlotte who lived next door to him had the parents we already know about!

Perhaps it would be 'better spent' on the marriage cert for Charlotte and John which would at least prove that this was the Charlotte he married?

We then need to look further on John to see if we can find a death.

Possibly, as you suggest, Thomas may have just 'stepped in' and they were not actually married.

It would be interesting to see 'their' children's birth + marriage certs to see who the 'father' was ?

luckily that original MR is on ancestry......she is under the name Charlotte Connoley + John Gatford, all ties in with parents names/occupations.........address is vauxhall street Lambeth?..........thats thomas henrys death Ellen

What exactly are you wanting to find. A marriage certificate? .First census after marriage is usually not found .Marriage is usually around first born child.Someone bring me up to speed .the threads are confusing.

This is Bernard and Charlotte living in Kirkmans Place in 1841. Charlotte does not show on any census at all with this family so maybe she died. In later census it is spelled Connelly or Connelley. There is a death for a Charlotte Connelley in 1850.

Stephen 's first Census is missing the fact that John was a Bricklayer,as is the one in my thread 1881 Census
So i think the 1893 Death is correct

the question is where is everyone in 1871? is Thomas still in the army, where are John and charlotte - is John dead at this time?

I will keep searching and let you know if I find them.

thanks Dea! Well if John died in 1869 - that rules him out of the 1871 census - there are so many weird spellings of Gatford. Thomas was probably still in the army.

can anyone help me find the whereabouts of John Gatford in 1861 ( 1yr before he married Charlotte)

It does appear that Charlottes parents were Thomas Connelly and Sarah East top......can anyone help me find a baptism for Sarah Eastop c 1807 St George, Wapping - there seems 2 possibilities on IGI......the only clue is what is on the 1871 census.....staying with them is Sarahs brother and sisiter.......can anyone help me figure out her baptism sarah eastops baptism with brother Charles and sister hannah
