Yes, may as well do the job right.
Get your certificates here:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
NEVER order through any of the genealogy sites, which add a 200% markup, from what I've heard.

We do it because it's fun, but we do like to think it's appreciated!
Maybe if you print out these two pages and go over the details more slowly -- I'm still not sure you've 'got' it. ;)
Yes, the 1910 John Morton birth cert is needed -- the date will only be off the one you have by a few weeks likely, and you might find the day is right and the month wrong, for instance -- to check the father's name.
And the 1910 William Edward Morton + Clara Holdham marriage certificate is needed ... just to see what was going on.
But I'm pretty confident this is your crew.
Will you be sure to come back to the thread and let us know what the certificate/s say/s??
We also do it because we're terminally curious. ;)

I will take the information you have all provided and send for certs and check it all out. Another pair or pairs of eyes do get results as I was not looking in the right places, this lesson I have learnt on searching today thanks to the kind people on Genes. I paid and went on find my past but still got it wrong, i don't think i will ever be very good at this. I thank you all so much for taking the time to bother about another persons search Kind Regards Georgey

For clarity, in case it isn't clear.
YOUR JOHN MORTON'S BIRTH:
Births Mar 1910 MORTON John Thanet 2a 1028
FAMILY IN 1911 CENSUS, details provided by Viv:
MORTON, William Head Married 3 1878 **House Painter** Dublin Ireeland VIEW MORTON, Clara Wife Married 13 years 33 1878 London MORTON, Ellaline Daughter 9 1902 School Fulham Lon MORTON, Ivy Daughter 7 1904 School Fulham Lon MORTON, Mabel Daughter 3 1908 Fulham Lon MORTON, William Son 2 1909 Ramsgate MORTON, John Son 1 1910 **Ramsgate**
That is your John - birth, parents and siblings.
There's a lot more info in the thread, but that's the foundation of it.

So, George.
Either you really aren't grasping the outcome of this, or you just don't think that the people who have solved it for you deserve a thanks.

It never entered my head to think when John died his birth date could be given wrong which could explain why the records office did not find him. So now I will work on the marriage cert 31-10-1941 it says he was 31 years old

Knock Knock.
Amazing how one little question answered gives the certainty a better air.
To obtain service records for John will cost you £30 about a 4/5 month wait after ordering and no certainty that they will be found and no refund if not found. You also need a copy of his death cert and some sort of proof to you being a next of kin.
From here.
Army Personnel Centre Historic Disclosures Mail Point 400 Kentigern House 65 Brown Street Glasgow G28 EX Telephone No. - not available - Fax No. - not available
And a thank you for the 1911 census details wouldnt have gone amiss.

Well there we are -- house decorator, house painter -- moved up slightly in the occupational field in the interim.
Georgey, are you catching it?
We do seem to have identified your John and his family! After rather a bit of effort. Knock twice if you're following. It would be rather nice to know that you've noticed everything I in particular have found you. If you check the time stamps on the posts, you'll see how much time did go into it. The better part of two hours' free labour, basically, from me alone. You do know that the words "thank you" have not passed your keyboard yet?
We do get engrossed in our searches, but to reply to help with just another question isn't quite the way.

The 5 sisters could just be 5 children William Edward Morton on Johns marriage cert says deceased & profession House Decorator. John was wounded out of the forces, do they keep records anywhere for wounded in action?

Ivy W M Morton married in 1931 in Hendon. Since she was born in 1911, I'll consider this not info about a living person.
Name: Ivy W M Morton Spouse: James W Johnson Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1931 Registration district: Hendon Registration county (inferred): Middlesex Volume Number: 3a Page Number: 987
The father's name on that marriage certificate would be useful info.
The marriages of other children in that 1911 household would be more useful likely, but identifying their births (to try to get middle names -- and to confirm surnames, since we don't know whose kids they were) is problematic.

And duh! John's birthplace in the 1911 was Ramsgate (in Thanet reg dist). So here he's been all along:
Births Mar 1910 MORTON John Thanet 2a 1028
IF that's our boy!
I think this might confirm the father's name, though:
Births Mar 1909 MORTON William Edward Thanet 2a 1043

There you are!
Well there's some fibbing there I think - married 13 years my foot.
I'd had my eye on this guy in 1901:
Name: William Morton Age: 23 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1878 Relation: Boarder Gender: Male Where born: Kilburn, Dublin, Ireland Civil parish: Fulham
Edwin Fox 64 Ann Fox 63 Caroline Fox 35 Elizabeth Fox 26 Alice Fox 21 William Morton 23
Occupation: House Painter - and *single*.
1891
Name: William R Morton -- that "R" looks just like the "E" on brother Edward's name Age: 13 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1878 Relation: Son Father's Name: John Mother's Name: Sarah Gender: Male Where born: Ireland Civil parish: Fulham John Morton 37 - Stone Carver Mason, born Ireland Sarah Morton 36 - born Horwich, Lancashire Lizzie Morton 15 - all kids born Ireland William R Morton 13 Georgina Morton 10 Annie Morton 8 Edward Morton 6 Lydia Morton 4 Sarah Morton 2
Of course we have no idea whether these are our Mortons, so I don't want to get *too* carried away!
But what the heck, why not a good wild theory?
Births Mar 1853 NOONAN Sarah Jane Bolton 8c 210
Horwich is in Bolton reg dist.
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/igi/search_igi.asp
William Morton Birth: 29 OCT 1876 Dublin, Dublin, Ireland Father: John Morton Mother: Sarah Morton Noonan Batch No.: C009461
1865 - 1885, Dublin, Ireland, British Isles Father: John Morton, Mother: Sarah
1. Anne Morton Birth: 09 JAN 1873 North, Dublin, Dublin, Ireland 2. Elizabeth Morton Birth: 08 MAR 1875 North City, , Dublin, Ireland 3. William Morton Birth: 29 OCT 1876 Dublin, Dublin, Ireland 4. Georgina Jane Morton Birth: 23 APR 1880 Foster Avenue, , Dublin, Ireland 5. Isabella Morton Birth: 14 AUG 1878 Dublin, Dublin, Ireland
-- the first one is odd one out, not an extracted record, mother's surname not shown. For all the others, surname is Noonan, which is why I went looking for the Sarah Noonan birth.

Well, the 5 sisters would go well with that 1911 John - he had Evaline (likely what "Ellaline" is), Ivy and Mabel by then. ;)
There are no Morton-Holdham births 1911 onward (i.e. what we would expect to see from the 1910 marriage). Of course, Morton-Brown births are a dime a dozen.
This birth - unfortunately just before mother's surnames were recorded in the index - could be another daughter:
Births Jun 1911 Morton Iris W M Fulham 1a 286
(There's also an Amy the previous quarter, but she would have been in the census.)
Viv must be feeding the livestock. We'll see what she can tell us when she gets my message.
