Between the Nelsons and Harwoods they seem to have supplied the BMD registrars with lots of work - so what about the unregistered and died at/near birth.
In probate terms under intestacy my reference is first cousins. If they are alive then it is one cheque. If they bred like this lot seem to have done then I need to order a bigger cheque book.
So my next phase is to find who is still alive or priove death.

I think, Stephen, the hope is that if you find one cousin or set of cousins, they will lead you to others? As long as the entire family didn't fracture, and it was just Horace Henry who split off.
I know that I could still find the families of all my mum's cousins born in the 20s and 30s, for instance -- children of old Ernest's kids born in the 1880s and 90s. My mum and her brothers and one or two others are the only survivors of that generation, but I could track down my generation (also older). My mum has always kept in touch with some branches out of her 5 aunts and uncles, and knew at least where to reach the rest 10 yrs ago when she and I and her cousin and her son organized a reunion of the Monck-Dennises. Five years before I found out they are all not Moncks at all! You must read my tale some day. ;)
So if even one of the lines pans out, that might be all you need!

Morning Janey,
I am now trawling the phone books for any of the names uncovered as I agree the human memory triggers all kinds of gems and snippets.
I will be calling some tonight and see where it goes.
Horace's father was also one of 7 children from Canning Town / Plaistow / Royal Victoria Docks / Silvertowm - all of which are West Ham registration district and (child mortality aside) probably ensured such a high survival rate of the adult male line as they were probably in reserved industries around the docks.
I just do not know about the Nelly / Ellen saga. I will give it some more work shortly.

Its no good this going to town for one £7 BC,I came home £250 lighter after going in the D.I.Y store for the flooring that I have been talking about getting for my office and the bathroom,and now have loads of work ahead laying it.
Funny how you can never find a good man when you need him.,,,sigh,,,
I totally agree with Janey,find one and you will most likely start the avalanche sliding Stephen,word travels fast when it comes to money,your prob will be weeding out the pretenders to the throne

Hi Viv and Janey,
one of the useful little spin offs from this is that the bathroom vinyl has remained unlaid - but is niow overdue.
I intend a) laying the vinyl and b) starting to call people. I agree - the pretenders can only be fought off with actual caste iron data. I also suspect I will be on the road a bit so the vinyl goes down ronight or never.
One of the branches seems to have nested down within 2 miles of Pauline's address.
I have new information on the Nelson schism circa 1980. Pauline's husband featured in a scandal at about this time and it was picked up by the press who run it large. Pauline divorced him on the back of his guilty plea at City of London Magistrates' Court. I believe they received adverse comment from Nelson family that annoyed them intensely and Horace died soon thereafter. So I suspect it was over protective Lillian who did not invite the Nelson family and may have shunned them.
