Really sorry you got into this now ,arn't you?????? Hahaha

Would this be my Victor ? b1876 q! Holborn, Victor George J, he's the only Victor I can find for around the birth year that you have.

Well, here's the danged icing on the cake. Australian death records are supposed to give parents' names. Whoever reported the death of Victor Gouriet the actor didn't know them. (I'd been meaning to look for these things but had to sort out what his relationship was first.)

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingBirth.cgi

14754/1942
GOURIET VICTOR
67 YRS SYDNEY (that's where parents' names are supposed to go)
SYDNEY

= DOB c1875

There's no marriage for surname Gouriet in NSW, and births are only available up to 1908.

I still suspect those Gouriet-Stokes births are his children.

Christine #1 ...............

"Would this be my Victor ? b1876 q! Holborn, Victor George J,"

That's a marriage.

I make it the second marriage of Victor's father. I think this is Victor's birth:

Births Mar 1874
GOURIET John George **V** Holborn 1b 634

Chrstine #2, if I can just remove the bumph:

VICTOR FREDERICK GOWRIET
Christening: 21 SEP 1834 Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, England
Father: DENNIS GOWRIET
Mother: JULIANA
Batch No.: C047933

Yes -- that is Dennes Etienne Victor Gouriet, father of Hamilton.
And Victor, Hamilton's older half-brother, as I laid out above.

I'm gathering that Christine #1 really has all this ... this business about Victor George really being Victor Frederick?

It's all feeling a bit redundant.

When looking for someone who's a descendant, I *always* go back a couple of generations myself, and look for fellow descendants of a more distant ancestor. (Have been doing it for years now, trying to find the family of my gr-grfather's sister the actress!) But I think Christine already had ...

Oh, Christine, I just don't know.

I POSTED THAT LINK ON PAGE 3.

Did YOU not follow it then??

Are my posts really invisible? You've posted the 1861 *twice* long after I posted it, etc. etc. ...

Time for me to go put drops in my eye, I think.

Just a note that it really would have been quite helpful if you two Christines could have used a sig of some sort to indicate which one of you was posting ...

Christine Report 20 Sep 2009 01:44

Yep, you are right Janey, that was a marriage I gave, I'm really rubbish at this and shattered hence all the errors. In future I will end my posts with Chris then you will know it's me.

I do have a fair bit on Hamiltons ancestors but most of what you have both given me tonight has been new info for me, and I am very grateful. I just didnt know what you would need as I am not used to asking other people for help.

JaneyCanuck Report 20 Sep 2009 01:52

Again, just for future ref: we need everything you got. Although granted, we went a little wayback on this one. ;)

You might want to just print it all off for bedtime perusing with a large brandy.

I think I did manage to sort out those generations! Hamilton's father had two marriages and Hamilton's half-brother had two marriages, I think is how it goes. Certainly throws the &*($ generations off.

(In the family of that gr-grfather of mine -- he had a sister about 8 years older, who married young. I'm from the youngest son in his second marriage, born when he was 50. So when one day I finally got a contact from a descendant of that older sister (not the actress), she was a grx2 granddaughter of my gr-grfather's sister ... making her, at 60, older than me and the same generation as my 8-yr-old niece. Aargh!)

#2 - my eye is feeling like crap just now, overdue for its steroids, so must be off to go lie around on the chesterfield and annoy my own No.1, who can't stand not having the entire thing for himself. -- For #1's info - had surgery on Thursday, do-over of lens replacement, vitrectomy, removal of scar tissue from retina ... still can't see in that eye ... and everybody is much concerned. ;)

Oh, this just needed a little more messing up.

JOHN GEORGE **VICTOR** GOURIET - what did I say?!
Birth: 08 JAN 1874
Christening: 24 FEB 1875 Saint Anne Soho, Westminster, London, England
Father: JOHN GEORGE VICTOR GOURIET -- I DON'T THINK SO!!!
Mother: ISABELLA
Batch No.: C062362

That's the only Gouriet in that batch.

I say it's Victor the actor, and lord knows what that is for his father's name ...

Oh my, how did I neglect these?

Somebody really has been busy with your Gouriets in the IGI, you know.

ELIZABETH BLANCHE GOURIET
Birth: 31 JUL 1886 London, London, England
Death: 07 AUG 1961
Father: THOMAS GOURIET - ???
Mother: ELIZABETH GREEN

Your Elizabeth Blanch Gouriet was born in SepQ 1885 - right quarter, wrong year. Not uncommon.

And now going back to the two things Ann o' GG posted way at the beginning (removing all of the %$#* bumph!!!) Why weren't we paying attention??

AMY AGNES GOURIET
Birth: 10 JUN 1885 , , India
Death: 07 SEP 1951
Spouse: GEORGE STAFFERD KIRKHAM

AMY AGNES GOURIET
Death: 07 SEP 1951
Father: LOUIS JOSEPH GOURIET - ???
Mother: ELIZABETH GREEN
Spouse: GEORGE STAFFERD KIRKHAM Family
Marriage: 11 NOV 1907 Innisfail, Alberta, Alberta

Your Agnes Amy was born SepQ 1883 - again, right quarter, wrong year.

We have quite an assortment of *wrong* fathers for what seem to be your Gouriets. But some interesting grains of truth and consistency.

There is a George Kirkham in Innisfail, Alberta, in the 1911 Cdn census. He was born 1854 and has wife Matilda born 1864. That one is awfully coincidental and looks like family. Parents?

There is a George Kirkham in Medicine Hat, Alberta, born 1874, with wife Mary Anna born 1876.

Alberta vital stats can't be searched on line:

http://www.servicealberta.ca/766.cfm

But - all those Innisfail Kirkhams in 1911 except the youngest were born in Ontario.

I don't pay for the details at Ancestry.ca:

Ontario birth:
George Stafford Kirkham
date ?
county: Lanark
father: George Kirkham

I can't see anything that looks like a marriage there.

This will be George in 1901 in Alberta:

http://www.automatedgenealogy.com

Kirkham George Head M Sep 10 1852 47
Kirkham Matilda Wife M May 22 1862 38
Kirkham Thomas O Son S Oct 18 1881 19
> > Kirkham George S Son S Sep 22 1884 16
Kirkham Hanna S Daughter S Sep 24 1886 14
Kirkham William S Son S Mar 24 1890 10
Kirkham Annie P Daughter S Oct 4 1892 8
Kirkham Lawrence F Son S Oct 2 1895 5

But where the *^$# is he in 1911???

And in 1916, which is only at Ancestry. His parents are there ...

These I think are definitely worth tracking down some.

I wonder whether Hamilton Gouriet deserted Julia (or vice vera) and hooked up with Elizabeth Green??
