Again - I was not trying to test anyone. I threw all my notes across the room and started again.
would it therefore be safe to assume that their is only one henry but 2 wifes? and 2nd one came along after first died? or that their is another henry perhaps a siblings child?? Thats the bit i am stuck on
The above isnt a test either, if he married twice then i have it if he didnt then i havent got it. and i dont know - call me a dumbass or any other name u like.. I was in a dark place and somone is holding the dimmer switch and i want them to turn it up - so i can see the light. Not trying to rock the boat it was a genuine wipe it clean and start again.

Now, there is a christening for Elzabeth Wallis and note the fathers name.......a form of Christopher perhaps? :-

"I assumed because i am only a 4 week veteran, that they had their tree wrong or that their were 2 henrys etc. Also Family search doesnt help with them inputting stuff as Henry?henrici etc."
Arthur
I have been researching my Cotterells, in all their various spellings, for over 6 YEARS!
Just one word of advice
NEVER ever assume anything in this game
Second marriages are always on the scene .... people married young (12 for girls, 14 for men), childbirth was very dangerous, bearing many children wore out the woman but not the man, "old" men married young girls (think Henry VIII), names are never spelled as you think they should be
Remember that the majority of our ancestors were illiterate, even upto 1900. At many times in English history less than 5% of the populaton would be able to read and write ...... and they were mainly men who had received religious training and some members of the upper aristocracy.
Then there was the transformation in language from whatever predated Saxon, to Saxon, to Norman, to where Latin was the every day language, to Olde Englishe, to all the dialects found in the UK .......................... and you can understand how we find all these varied spellings of names.
If they were spelt wrongly, even until the early years of the 20th century, our ancestors were probably unable to read well enough to correct the mistake!

I have looked at all the henry cockerills in hackness area and i have the following 4. HENRICUS COCKERELL - International Genealogical Index / BI Gender: Male Christening: 24 OCT 1697 Hackness, Yorkshire, England 7. HENRICUS COCKERELL - International Genealogical Index / BI Gender: Male Christening: 14 JUN 1702 Hackness, Yorkshire, England 10. HENRICUS COCKERELL - International Genealogical Index / BI Gender: Male Christening: 17 FEB 1707 Hackness, Yorkshire, England
i could rule ths one out due to the area - again unsure 11. HENRY COCKERILL - International Genealogical Index / BI Gender: Male Christening: 21 DEC 1707 St Laurence, Scalby Near Scarborough, Yorkshire, England
& these 2 which i have ruled out because they are too young to be wed in time for Cristopher Cockerill b1757 - just a guess 19. HENRY COCKERILL - International Genealogical Index / BI Gender: Male Christening: 08 FEB 1737 Hackness, Yorkshire, England 20. Henry Cockerill - International Genealogical Index / BI Gender: Male Christening: 03 MAY 1739 Hackness, Yorkshire, England
I then have this issue 4 weddings and not a clue. IGI Individual Record FamilySearch™ International Genealogical Index v5.0 British Isles Search Results | Download | Print

Did you take note that Elizabeth Wallis' father was called Xtopheri which I believe would be Christopher and that is a name that has been handed down for a couple of generations in the Cockerill family. I am not saying that it is definately the correct marriage but it could well be a clue.

I did. and i guessed as much from the dates of birth & Marriage, just wanted to make sure i was thinking correctly. Thanks for the help. A
