Find Ancestors

Im trying to find all about Dorothy Nicholson born 24th november 1911 and died 1991 june in York birth of place Croyson and married to William Hawtin that is it all I know, any more about her parent? i been told possible she is adpoted? anyone can help? this will be great

just to add this may helps they got two daughter Pamela Hawtin and Patricia Hawtin and she died ages of 21

Patricia looks to be born there but Pamela was born Sheffield.

had another look its William Geogre Hawtin born 1906 and died 2000

What makes me think she wasn't married was because Pamela was registered as a Nicholson and then reregistered the following year as Hawtin.

If she were married before, I would expect to see the birth under her husband's surname.

The girls were born in 1932 and 1935


so the marriage, if it happened, took place after 1935.


It is possible that she married someone who was killed in WW2, and then married Mr Hawtin after that


Or ..................... they may not have married at all, but lived common-law.



Much of the information on a death certificate is only as good as the informant knows. This includes the name, age and marital status of the deceased!


So if the informant didn't know all the details, but knew she had been known as Mrs Hawtin (just as in a common-law marriage these days), then that is the name that would go on the death certificate.

so you think that the marriage happened after Pamela's birth?

so has there been a bad mis-transcription of one or other of their name s....... or the omission maybe of one party on the transcription that ahs been done??

I have sometimes found on ancestry that the response is nil when I click on Find Spouse!

Thomas has Patricia born 1936 in Burma in his tree, so that means the Patricia we found in 1932 can't be the one.

I managed get some info out of Pamela she said she remember her mother and father married in India but dont know where she said Dorothy possible adpoted? she not sure she said never met Dorothy's mother or father she said Dorothy never talk about her family she dont know why.
