Are there any records for Cadd in SA?

I have a record of a John Joseph Cadd (b. 25 Dec 1836 Buckinghamshire) marrying Sophia Elizabeth Lambrick-Palmer 25 Feb 1856, Adelaide. Sophia was born Apr 1836, Isle of Guernsey, Channel Islands.

John Joseph died in San Bernardino California in 1908, and Sophia d in 1901, San Bernardino

His father was John C Cadd b 1805 Buckinghamshire, died San Bernardino California in 1871. He was married to Anne Bedford, also born in Buckinghamshire (1800), and died in San Bernardino in 1885.

If John Joseph was in SA and then moved to California ............ I'm assuming that his parents also went to SA, but have no evidence.

In fact, one family story is that they went on a Mormon ship from SA to California in order to proselytize on the Californian goldfields!

Can you find any evidence for when these Cadds entered SA, how long they were there, and when they might have left?

I don't have any record of any children that might have been born in SA

Found this
"John & Ann Bedford Cadd, with their children, emigrated to South Australia aboard the sailing ship "Mariner".
They left Liverpool in the Spring of 1847 & arrived in Port Adelaide, South. Australia in 25-9-1847. The vessel, lacking the wind to sail it, at times, during the voyage caused passengers & crew to panic in dread of running short of provisions before they made it to Australia.
On the 27th June 1857, John & Ann took the children Emma, Joseph (with their spouses) and Ann, the youngest & departed Sydney, New South Wales aboard the ship "Lucas". they arrived in San Pedro Harbour, Los Angeles, on the 12 October 1857."

Also the shipping records have the family as the name Caddie and says they arrived in South Australia with 5 children,so that would be John,Emma,Ann and i have found evidence of a Elizabeth Cadd and a Thomas Cadd.
I also have a photo of their headstone (John and Ann) and some photos of their children (Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Cadd,Thomas William Cadd,Emma Elizabeth Cadd,Ann Elizabeth "Lizzie" Cadd) ,not sure how to give to you.if you want it send me a message with your email address and i can send them to you.
Do you need any info of when the family was in the USA or any other info,the tell me exactly what info you need as i have found lots on the family??.

I have a lot of info on them after they arrived in California .... where they apparently became pillars of the San Bernadino Valley pioneers! So I don't need that thank you very much.



Could the Thomas Cadd that you found be this one? He and his sister Hannah emigrated to Australia, with spouses and children some time in the 1840's or 1850s. The information I have is:-

Thomas Cadd born 26 Nov 1815 in Preston Bisset, died 21 Mar 1887
in Clyde, Victoria, Australia. He married Ann Neal on 28 Dec 1835 in Preston Bisset. She was born 6 Dec 1815 in Preston Bisset, and died 19 Aug 1901 in South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Hannah Cadd born 17 Jan 1819 in Preston Bisset. She married Frederick
Clifton on 10 Feb 1837 in Preston Bisset. He was born in 1817 in Preston
Bisset, and died in 1889 (age 72) in Sydney, Australia.

Would you please check the S.A.shipping for Esther Gething between 1847 and 1853. She may have travelled with her husband Thomas or even under her maiden name of Wood. She was born in 1825 at Rugely Staffordshire.

I am looking for a Keith Shannon , More specifically his brother (name unknown). This brother was a freind of my mothers in 1969 in adelaide. All i know is that keith was freinds with my uncle (Tony Shammel) and that tony cannot remember keiths brothers first name. Tony was around 20 years of age in 1969 and i would imagine keith would have been near that age as well. Im sure if i can find keith , i would be able to find my mothers freind.

It is very generous of you to do this! I am researching records for the Hoenger family. Being such an unusual surname anything you come up with should be relevant - and there shouldn't be an overwhelming amount. Rudolphe Hoenger and his partner arrived in Adelaide in 1876 and married that year. They had about 8 children but they all seemed to have left for NSW around the 1900's. I know there is a record of a Rudolph Hoenger in the Police Gazette which I would be very interested in getting details of. Thanks again - is there any way I can help you in return?

Here is the 2 articles in the 1879 Police Gazette relating to Rudolph Hoenger:

"August Peterson and Rudolph Hoenger, by Constable Bennett, for feloniously assaulting John Schloikier, at Caltowie ; committed." .

also
"Hoenger, Rudolph, assault ; fined £5.".

1888 P/G .
"STEALING IN DWELLINGS . FROM THE PERSON, &C.
On the night of the 6th instant, from Hannah Hoenger,
at the National Hotel, Adelaide, a long black fur boa, with
tassels at ends, and a black Italian cloth umbrella, with hoop
handle and silver band.-(C.1272.)".

1890 P/G.
"William O'Donohoe, Henry Harold Thompson, William Wardrup,
and Otto Hoenger, by Det. Sgt. Burchell and M.C. Provis, for larceny
from Alexander Ferguson, at Glen Osmond ; 0' Donohoe reforma
until 16, Wardrup and Thompson whipped, Hoenger charge withdrawn.".

1891 P/G:
"Rudolph Hoenger, a stonecutter, age about 45 years,
height about 5ft. 5in., slight build, dark complexion, dark-
brown hair, and full beard (sometimes shaves), dark eyes,
medium nose, a German, but speaks good English, for
disobeying an order of the Adelaide Bench to pay the sum
of 2s. 6d. per week to the secretary of the State Children's
Council for the maintenance of his son on the 9th instant;
the arrears then amounted to £2 19s. 6d.-(C.1826.)".

1894 P/G:
"Vide Police Gazette, 1891, page 208.-Re Rudolph
Hoenger, for disobeying an order of the Adelaide Bench for
the maintenance of his son-The warrant has been with-
drawn.--(C.1826.)".

Couldnt find any more in the Police Gazettes after that,if you know of a certain year,let me know and i will check it out,it looks like Rudolph was in SA at least until 1894.

Do you want me to check the BDM indexes ?,or do you already have all the relevant dates and info for the Hoenger family ??

Thank you so much for that. Rudolphe was a bit of a lad, wasn't he?
I seem to have picked up most of the birth and death dates for the family but i would like to know the places where they were born and died to give me an idea of the movements of the family. There were several children who died in infancy and there seems to have been 2 Fredricks. I would especially like to know when and where Anna Maria Schneider (Rudolphe's wife) died. The Hoengers that survived into adulthood moved to other states (mostly NSW). I can give more information if required.
