After many late nights I have to admit defeat!
My father william charles wiltshire(b 1.8.1918) was the son of william wiltshire and edith mary stallard who married 1.6.1901.(registration district Faringdon). The mcert shows his surname as wilshire(without the T) aged 30 labourer living in kingston lisle. His father's name is shown as robert wilshire(again without the T) a labourer. I have found a william wiltshire age 30 born spasshold(which I assume to be sparsholt where I was born)living at kingston lisle as a boarder on the 1901 census and a birth registered oct/nov/dec 1871 (faringdon). But I am stuck with Robert---I have looked everywhere I can think of under wiltshire and wilshire finding a robert wiltshire registered 1844 (faringdon) ,but he seems lost from then. I would appreciate any help I can get from you kind people. Thanks

Re Edith, Patricia, I'm trying to know what you know. It don't help much for you to know things we don't. ;)

They married very shortly after the 1901 census, so confirming where William was in the 1901 could be very helpful. I'm taking the birthplace Sparsholt from that William in the 1901, but if he and Edith weren't in the same general area it might seem odd for them to have married shortly after -- unless they knew each other from childhood and he was away working and went back home to marry, or some such.

There doesn't seem to be any birth record for that William.
But in 1871 he's William A. Winchcomb.

Now here's interesting.

It had a son Robert of just the right age.

Now, that looks like the perfect situation for a romance / exploitation of a domestic worker.

My great-aunt was the result of just such a situation in 1890. We know the surname of the family where my gr-grmother was living because it was my gr-aunt's middle name. Don't know whether father or son was the "father" of my gr-aunt.
