Hello Dianne

I would be grateful if you could look for the death of

Wallace Wood, he was born 11th June 1876 Birdsedge Denby Yorkshire. He died in Australia in 1916.
I have a memorial picture with that date hand written on the bottom, but have been unable to find his death in any records.

He went out to Canada in 1908 to visit family and I have a photo of him there. At some stage he then moved to Australia where he died. The family he should have been visiting were based in the Geelong area of Victoria, but although I have the Digger discs, I couldn't see a death for him, so maybe he died out of state

I found the death of a Wallace Wood, s/o Henry Wood & Ann Kilner - death in Qld 1917 - Reg# 1917/B26055
I could find no death in NSW or SA, or Vic.
I can try WA if you think he may have ended up there.

Di
I'm sorry but Australian Govertment agencies think genealogists are a cash-cow, and milk all they can from them

Deborah,
Mary Agnes Wright died 27/6/1964 in a hospital in Lower Nth Adelaide aged 76.
book 975, page 4241.
As she married Wright in 1933 and stated a widow at the time, Nicholas must have died pre then, but I can find no death for him in SA or Vic, I will try the other states.
Regards
Dianne

LindainHerriotCountry Report 29 May 2009 13:35

Thank you so much, for the Wallace Wood death, it is the correct one in Queensland, the family obviously had the wrong year.
I will now see if I can get a death certificate for him

Linda

edit, it seems to cost 33 aus dollars which is £16.33 plus the postage. This seems a bit steep compared to the £7 we pay here. This is from the Queensland dept of justice site. is this the correct place to get them from?

There was a marriage of an Albert Clark, born circ 1879, s/o William to Annie Connoly 11/6/1902 in Norwood, SA.
Children born in SA, Albert Raymond Edward, 1903, William Osratton 1905, 1907, 1916. This Albert was named as Albert Ottey Parry Clark at the birth of Joseph in 1916, so may not be the right one?

I have found the marriage of Christina's sister Pauline in 1934 to Cecil Coleman, but I cannot find a marriage or death for Christina pre 1937 in SA
Cecil was buried in Centennial Pk SA , 21/7/2004, aged 91.
Will keep in touch if anything more comes to light

Deborah Report 30 May 2009 05:53

Thanks Dianne

I already knew about Pauline as she was my husbands mother, she died very young and my husband was adopted. It is a very long story but Cecil Coleman wasn't his father.

Iam trying to find out more of my husbands background through these other relatives.

Mary agnes Wright ( nee Armstrong) formerly Pater was my husbands grandmother
If you could please do another lookup for me regarding her husband Thomas Joseph Wright -1888. Did he have any children from his previous marriage as it states he was a widower when he married Mary.

Nicolas Pater was my husband grandfather and I have just recently found out he was an immigrant from Luxembourg- if we have no record of his death could he have gone back?

Christina Margaret is the one I'm most interested in finding out about as she may have had children who would subsequently be cousins of my husband.

Once again
thankyou and if you are able to find out more it would be a step in solving this puzzle

Hi Dianne,

I have a Thomas Walter (Wally) GILLETT who I think was born in Queensland or South Australia. Only info I have for him is that he married Marie Smith on 20 Dec 1952 in Methodist Church, Graceville. And that he died 3 Apr 1992 in Brisbane.

Finding his birth would be great!

I have found Nicholas' Naturalization record on the NAA site, but I have come up with nothing in SA for Christina.
NAA site is http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx
search as a guest user.
Thomas Joseph Wright was born 18/5/1888 the s/o Thomas and Kate nee Burns.
This is a possible marriage for him in Broken Hill
1083/1908 WRIGHT THOMAS J GRAHAM SARAH BROKEN HILL
one birth I could find in NSW - [birth records only go to 1908]
12510/1908 WRIGHT JACK THOMAS J SARAH BROKEN HILL
3 deaths
12733/1910 WRIGHT JACK THOMAS J SARAH BROKEN HILL
17868/1916 WRIGHT WILLIAM L THOMAS J SARAH BROKEN HILL
8055/1922 WRIGHT EILEEN THOMAS J SARAH BROKEN HILL
poss the death of sarah
18897/1925 WRIGHT SARAH THOMAS ELIZABETH BROKEN HILL
I did find a WW2 record for a Thomas Joseph Wright, born 15/11/1914 Broken Hill.
This Thomas Joseph [s/o Thomas Joseph] married Rita Ethel Goodwin 11/7/1936 in Methodist Manse, Brompton, SA.
There was also another possible daughter, Jean, bc 1913, who married Raymond Alexander English 18/4/1935 in Norwood, SA
Hope this jumble of bits & pieces helps

Sue
Do you have his marriage or death cert?
There is only one possible connected marriage of a Walter Henry Gillett to Mavis Florence Hawke 7/6/1930.
As the SA births CD only goes up to 1928, and I assume your Wally wasn't born till possibly the mid 1930's I recommend you get his marriage cert, it should show his father and his age, and possibly where born.

Hi Dianne. Thanks for your kind offer.

In Victoria, about 1940, can you find a birth for Kate Mary Dunlop (or possibly Hutchinson; this might be her mother's maiden name).

Kate married Chris Ronald Bryant about 1963, very possibly in Melbourne. Any info on this marriage, please, witnesses etc. if given?

Many thanks for your time,

Kind regards,

Barry

Sorry Diane - I posted a thanks and reply earlier but must have got lost in cyber space.

But thanks again - I guess getting the marriage certificate is the way to go but I am reluctant as this chap married my 5th Cousin, so quite a distant relative BUT he could well be related to other Gilletts I have in my tree.

I will keep a note of the couple you found who married in 1930, just in case - do you happen to know where they married. please?

Many thanks

Sue

Thanks very much for looking, Dianne. Some we win - and some we lose! lol.

Just thinking (dangerous!) in the latter years to 1942, is there a marriage of a Dunlop or Hutchinson to each other or to others? Both understood born in England; no further information or Christian names, however. Thanks again.

Ciao.
