No. I think that's the answer. What was the question?

"My Threads" is a list of all the threads you have posted in. Whether you started the thread or not.

It has a purpose! It's so you can *find* the threads you have posted in. This is a good thing!!

As a thread gets old and has no new posts, it drops down the list. Whenever a new post is added to a thread you have posted in, it goes to the top of the list. That's how you tell there are new posts in a thread you have posted in. And that's because you might want to *read* the new posts!

Those threads in "My Threads" are on the GR site. Not on your computer. Nothing is on your computer.

All that list does is show you where you have posted! That's all! Really!

Now -- I have very, very, very rarely got tired of seeing a thread in "My Threads". That's when it's a thread on Chat or General that goes on for weeks. Sometime early in the thread I added a comment to it. But the thread itself has long since ceased to interest me, and I get tired of seeing it in my list. It isn't hurting anybody. It's just annoying me.

So I have gone back and found my post or couple of posts in the thread in question (which will now be a couple of dozen pages long) and deleted them. Nobody's going to read them now -- everybody's reading page 37 of the thread, and my post is on page 3. Nobody will notice it's gone, and the thread will stop appearing in my list.

But other than that, I would never delete a thread or post just to get it out of my My Threads list. There just is no reason on earth to do that! And I have much better things to do with my time. Very important things, don't you know. Like the work I should be doing now ...

Stupido has finally got it!

No no, I'm a reflector and it has taken me some time to think about this. Viv, I get you with regards to the deleting threads from a public one, like the one that we are writing on now.

Buuuut...when you go on a thread (as in not yours) it puts this into your personal threads box. This is the one that I am wondering if you can delete even if it is NOT your thread origionally?

Dont fall out with me caus you think I'm a numpty Viv!

Cheers

If you are the poster of the thread,
as in me for this one, then I / you can delete the whole thing from GR by deleting at the original first message if I wish to do so,
which I DONT.
Only GR other than you can do so.
If you just want to delete a stupid comment or if you thought it was unsavoury after you posted it then you can delete your little message on the string of the thread
Or like me who on the few {VERY few] occasions has posted some info and then realised it was TOTALLY WRONG ,not often of course, then I have been known to delete my message from a thread.

Gee Report 21 Apr 2009 11:11

Now I've stopped laughing I can write back!

I meant 'my threads' to delete as they are getting too big

And Viv...was that you being sarcastic...how very dare you

Oh noooooo just realised it's deleting 'my threads' that upsets people! And people tell me I'm bright...shows how dumb they are lol

So please one last daft question. If you delete threads from your own account as in the 'my threads' on the bottom left does this then delete it from the whole GR site? I thought my threads was more of a favourite and was personal to you and your account...?

If I'm gona write and publish your book Evie I want commision!

I have been on GR for about 18 months and this thread has given me lots of insight into 'people'. For a long time it was hard to work out who had a sense of humour and not..now I know.

You can add me to the list of 'I like a joke' brigade

Evie just another stupid question(be careful with your answer I might delete my thread!!!)...how do you delete/clean up your own threads I havent worked that one out yet?

Ah, you see, I don't need to be writing no books.

My oeuvre will live for eternity on these boards -- I don't delete. ;)

(Well, once in a blue moon I do. There are a few threads I posted in yonks ago that are still active, although they immediately ceased to interest me, and I get bored seeing them constantly in my My Threads. So I've deleted a bit. *Not* genealogy stuff, I hasten to point out.)

So all you ever have to do is search me up, and you can print off and make yr own book.

What, you want me to do everything for you?!

ha ha. That's a joke.

Gee Report 21 Apr 2009 05:41

Brilliant. Thanks to Viv and some obviously VERY educated posters there has been some interesting reading - lol!

It's nice to be able to point out things that get our goat while still having a sense of humour..Evie you should write a book mate I'd be a taker!

Well Viv, your wobbly must have been truly 'wobbled' a very cathartic moment I should think!

Thanks guys

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 20 Apr 2009 18:36

Now children
I only started this thread in fit of temper about some peoples rule for themselves and not others.
So no squabbling over who can be the most sarcastic.
I would never be sarky as perfect people dont need to be!

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 20 Apr 2009 18:35

Julie - you may feel free to quote me. I do it all the time. ;)

Viv -- BOAGEY!

Sniff ... sniff ... hmm.

Dear me, sarcasm seems to be heavy in the air. Should I be feeling taunted?

Oops, not me. Mine is not to question why, mine is just to do and stfu.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 20 Apr 2009 17:44

Now let me see who that could be.
No I cant even begin to hazard a guess at who you could mean Evie.

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 20 Apr 2009 17:21

Well I suppose I have to point out that that is how it seems to me from general experience on the boards here -- not from what anyone or ones in particular have said in this thread or elsewhere.

And that, contrary to what may have been implied (I wouldn't know), the sarcasm was not intended as a "taunt" of anyone or ones in particular, it was aimed at a general idea I have found to be current on these boards (actually, especially among posters looking for help, and secondarily among regular posters who seem to hold that idea regarding newbies/other regulars, and how the former deserve every consideration and the latter deserve none).

Now, when it comes to losing ancestors, I *can* think of someone who's running hard for that prize. ;)

I missed it Jonesey, and what wobbly?
but being the extremely busy person that I am with a medicaly unfit OH, I cant spend all my time
Checking up on my threads, reading new GR bumff, and trying to help people find their lost grandparents etc who post on the boards.

Very remiss of them to lose them in the first place though I say.

Edited to add: And I'm a very tolerant person :-)
