Also possible, at that time, Grandpa may have been ap Davies.....which would have probably confused the man into just writing Davis anyway. Can someone explain to me how i get into someone elses tree? It is open for me. Marcia

I gave the Welsh spelling of Davies because my Grandfather came from Wales. However, he got married in England. In those days they were not too troubled by exact spelling and, the reigistra being English, automatically wrote it Davis without asking if it was correct. My Grandparents either did not notice at the time or thought it unimportant and not worth correcting.

IF you ever come back to this, please note the birthplaces of the family I posted for 1911..........used precious units to get the info.
There is NO mention of Wales............someone has been giving you inaccurate information.
You surely know that Davis (no E) is an English name............ Edit | Delete | Add

Oh Mel I am soooo glad. But I have really misled people with my original posting! I just hope everyone on this thread will re-read it and update whatever they have found. some people are looking for Alice Mary Davies long before she married and as if she were the Mother of Alber Earnest instead of the wife......but could here mother-in-law also have been an alice? Possible I guess, but should be registered in wales at that point. so I have printed everything off so that I can study at leisure and linc the dates. I have caught up with messages on this line, but I have found 98 messages on a queery for another branch going the other way...I know have learned a new lesson.......only look for one person at a time when you start!!!! Well, you must all be heartily sick of me!!!! Not my fault this time! I see the name stuck Ricochet. Thanks for all your work and all of Mels too. You have certainly found the right people so my Dad must have been told an awful lot of lies about his background! Anyway it is all coming together nicely thanks to all the help. Reason I have been absent so long: my mainline phone went down and it took nearly four weeks for them to find the fault....at the bottom of my garden, would you believe, on the incoming cable where it attaches to the pole! So, no phone, no internet.... It took another week for them to get that back on.... It was a very peaceful 5 weeks with time for a lot of reading, but a lot of frustration at not being able to get back online.. It will take another week to sort out all the 'waiting'stuff. BIG THANK YOU'S ALL ROUND. Big question....where did Wales come in? All my beliefs in my spoken ancestry seem to be falling apart very fast!
