Interesting obituary Jan. It says he took a " deep and active interest" in the welfare of those in the nursing profession. Wonder if he ever had an encounter with a Nurse Macleod lol.

Thanks to peeps following up on PM Macleod at 22 Terrapin Road. (Good find FBG for Norah/Eleanora in Ireland!) See my post on pg 60 for more info on that family. Perhaps they just happened to be a Macleod family living in Tooting. Just for the record Patrick and Norah married in Ireland in 1903:

Norah D M Stewart Apr-May-Jun 1903 Monaghan

Patrick M'Farlane M'Leod Apr-May-Jun 1903 Monaghan

Haven't found either of them in 1911 on FMP or in Ireland. Wonder where they were?

Unlike FMP GR very kindly provide birth place in the free index!

Wonder if this is their son:

Surname
Forename
Place of birth
Location in 1911

MACLEOD Patrick 1909 Upper Tooting Staines

Transcript anyone?

Thanks
Julie

Like many others, I have been following this from the beginning and am so soo wanting Evelyn to have an answer. It has been mentioned more than once that Diane was 'protective' of the Leslie name. So a little off centre, but has this set of marriages been investigated? Are Leslie & Mcleod the couple? This is the only marriage on BMD for Leslie & M*leod!

Marriages Mar 1860 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JONES Rebecca Liverpool 8b 300
>>> Leslie John Liverpool 8b 300
>>> McLeod Catherine Liverpool 8b 300
Moran Patrick Liverpool 8b 300

Probably just another coincidence, but we have Catherine (Kate?).

Here's hoping :-D

Problem is Vanessa that we are groping in the dark here.
We have no idea where the "Leslie" comes from.
Could be her mother´s maiden name, her grandmother´s maiden name or absolutely no family connection whatsoever.
I have been thinking for a while that there´s a connection with the family in Liverpool, but who knows??

Hi Vanessa and welcome to the thread. Thank you for your thoughts......and wisechild's comment re groping in the dark is just about right! But we are willing to try all avenues and need to find someone with a searchlight...:-D

Thanks Jan and Jooleh but I am not sure where to go with the census.......you know I am pretty hopeless with census info.........

Thinking of Evelyn.......

Had a look at the Leslie/ Macleod marriage that Vanessa found (thanks Vanessa)
Not looking hopeful.
1861 spelled Lesley shows he was born Ireland & she Scotland, but no area
1871 shows both b Scotland
1881 shows he born Antrim, she Scotland.
1861 they had a daughter Annie aged 3. No sign of her later & no other children
Pretty much impossible to trace Catherine back to Scotland as there are so many Catherine Macleods born within 5 years of this one.
John´s occ was stoker on steam vessel in 1861

Hello Everyone, thank you all for your efforts on my behalf, you are very kind and this old bird appreciates your help.
Have been to the hairdressers and feel almost human today.
Ron is having a reasonable day though has quite a bit of pain, caused I think by his cough.
I wish I could find the answer to Dianes roots or even get to know her real name because it really looks as if she was never DLM
Must get some work done, love to all

Lovely to hear from you Evelyn...I'm sure you do feel better having had your hair done....I know I do! <3

Thanks for that Tabitha.......I'm just trying to help the members work together on this mystery......it's really Fans baby as she was there at the 'birth' so to speak I'm just a midwife co-ordinator! :-D

Jooleh

Thanks for the census info Jan. That explains why I couldn't find his birth:

Births Sep 1908   (>99%)
Ryder  Patrick Macleod    Wandsworth  1d 683

I think Isabel Maud must be Patrick Macleod senior's daughter by his first marriage so that's a good find.(ref my post on pg 60)

Familysearch has the family in Ontario Canada in 1881 so she is Maud?

  Household Gender Age
  Patrick McLeod M 37y
Jessie McLeod F 36y
Margerett Simpson F 14y
Gordon Simpson M 12y
Helen Simpson F 10y
Maud McLeod F 9y
Donald Mc McLeod M 5y
Patrick McLeod M 4y
John McLeod M 2y
Annie M. Morrow F 18y

As she married a Ryder in 1898 she is unlikely to be Diane's mother.

I did get rather excited about this next birth as I can find no further records for this child:

Births Sep 1904   (>99%)
MACLEOD  Doreen S    Wandsworth  1d 727
McLeod  Doreen Shannon    Wandsworth  1d 727

Again ref my post on pg 60 I wondered if she was born to Jessie Shannon Macleod before her marriage in 1906.

However, she could belong to one of the siblings. If only we could find her in 1911 we might be able to rule her out. She may be with the missing couple Patrick and Norah?

Cynthia don't worry- no need for you to do anything with this info-just trying to establish this family. You are doing enough already!

I keep thinking no it can't be these Macleod's but..................

I noticed in the 1901 census that Jan posted for Isabel Maud Ryder ( nee Macleod ) that they were in Sussex. The address was 119 Marina St.Leonards Hastings and that rang a bell. I read somewhere that Sarah Ferrand used to take her holidays there and I recalled I had found them in one of the census'. So here it is. 50 years apart!

Coincidence only?

1851 England Census about Emily Fenwick

Civil parish: Hastings St Mary Magdalen
Town: St Leonard
County/Island: Sussex

34 Marina

Sarah Ferrand 67
Emily Fenwick 32
Emily Fenwick 10
Christophine Fenwick 7
John Briggs 60
Willm Warrington 30
Henrietta Butter 30
Mary Forton 33
Eliza Maker 27
Emma Head

Have a look at Marina St.Leonards on google street map - some lovely buildings.

Isabel Maud's husband died in 1909 and she herself died in 1912 so the children were orphaned. Wills for both give the names George William Ryder and then later in 1929 Eileen Maud Bishop (nee Ryder)

Even I can see what you are getting at there Julie :-D

How many more of these strange 'coincidences' will we encounter in this story???

I am beginning to think of it as the back of a tapestry - all muddle and confusion with links going every which way and yet seemingly nowhere.

Eventually you turn it over and see the picture on the other side and it all makes sense!

Can't wait to turn this story over....... :-D :-D

Good Morning and thank you to everyone for your help.
Things are not too good at home at the moment, Ron is in a lot of pain and doctors and nurses seem to have taken over our lives but bless them they are so helpful and I am very grateful for their help.
I am also very grateful to all of my friends on this thread you have done so much hard work and still Diane (or whatever her name was) has not been traced.
Much love and thanks to you all
