Think she would have gone to school to at least 12/13.
My father born 1916 had to go to age 14 so did mum born 1921, my grandparents born 1870s - 1891 were all 12 when they left school.
1905 birth would give you to at least 1917

What job did Diane do at the hospital?
If she was a state registered nurse - she had her name on a register, was this kept?
Was she a secretary - training at a college?
Was she an unpaid charity worker? Many upper and middle class young women of that era did charity work. Many of the inmates could have been soldiers of WW1 mentally damaged by the war. Many saw it as their duty to help as so many families were left with casualties.

Quick visit.....thanks again all.
I like the word 'enigma'. Maybe we should call this the "Enigma" thread... :-D
Renes had volunteered to pull all references to Diane's hospital work on this thread together. I'll give her a nudge and see how she is doing......there's some info around the page 30 mark Pat.
Kay, it may be worth checking back to see if your findings have been spotted before.
Must go.........

I belive I read the Nicholson school on Stornoway register had been checked for D L Macleod,,,,,,,but if she renamed herself then she wont appear in that name,,,,,,,but a match maybe found to her DOB.
as Dolina,Donadina,Maudina,(a name used female and male)
Bill Lawson as recomended has extensive knowledge of the Hebrides and its local records,,,I wonder if he can give any pointers,,,I belive there is the Stornoway Gazette ,was it in print back then.?

Regarding the 1917 will for Robert Macleod in Liverpool. Catherine Macleod McKinnon had a brother called Robert Macleod. She married Murdo MacKinnon & among others they had a son called Donald by 1901. Don´t have access to Scottish records & the names are pretty common, but perhaps someone could check it out, please & take a look at the 1911. If it is "our" family, Robert would have been quite a bit older than I had assumed. Not impossible if he was a career soldier. One of my soldier ancestors married for the 1st time in his 40s. Sorry I can´t take this any further.

Yes Susan. That´s the one. Think Chirsty MacKinnon was Murdo´s mother, not Catherines. In 1881 there was an Anne Macleod, mother, living with the household. Catherine MacKinnon was a widow in 1917 according to the probate of Robert Macleod´s will. She could easily have had another couple of children with Murdo before he died. Wondered if there was a "cuckoo" in the MacKinnon nest in 1911, or at least an isabella. That would mean the old lady whose death we are looking for would have been Kate MacKinnon, not Kate Macleod I´m really trying hard to make this one stick ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Hello all.
Wisechild, page 36 on here gives you a good account bout the thoughts on that death. FBG sent for the d/c and will..........it states that Robert left £200 and a few belongings.
Would love to involve Bill Lawson in this search - but have you seen his prices???
Thanks Renes.......whenever it's convenient to you.
Thanks to you all........................... :-)
Meanwhile, I'll go back and trawl through the G-F connection....again!

Good morning all and thank you Kathy......looking forward to hearing from you.
I find it odd, from the marriage certificate, that Diane does not state an occupation - given that she had been working at Springfield Hospital until around the time of her marriage :::: ? :-S
Can anyone who is good at searching for census things, please help me out?
I am trying to round up the siblings of Evelyn Goddard-Fenwick in the 1911 but am stuck on a couple of them.
One of the problems is the name factor..........sometimes they are Goddard or Fenwick or Goddard-Fenwick.........arrgghh
I am missing:
1911
Christophine Fanny Goddard-Fenwick born 1870 Warwickshire - ?
William H. Willoughby Goddard-Fenwick born Jersey 1874 - should be in the Canadian census - Nova Scotia area, but can't see him.
Emily F. Goddard-Fenwick born Jersey 1877 ?
George Digby Goddard-Fenwick born Jersey c1880 - ?
I have these thanks!
Evelyn is in Wandsworth with 2 music teachers (one of whom is to be her future sister in law).
Gwendoline Goddard-Fenwick born 1880 - Sister of Charity, Wandsworth
Louisa C.C. born 1883 - Nun. Hyde Park.
Need a lie down now! :-D
