I am trying to solve this problem . I have my ancestors living in the 1841 census at Redwalls Cross edge with al of their children . On the 1851 cendus they are at cross edge but is wife in 1841 is betty in 1851 it is isabel . There is a marriage for richard and isabel on the IGi and all the children are down as isabels yet on the 1841 they are bettys . I cant find a marriage fir richard and betty what does anyone think Richard shuttleworth b abt 1801 lancashire |

I think Isobel was his wife and he may have called her Betty then he had a daughter they called Betty so he then called his wife Isabel?????? If his first child was born in 1820 then the marriage would fit. don't forget they could marry very young in those days. |

Ages were rounded down to the nearest five on the 1841 - 1851 gives both their ages as 52 |

as the mother of the fisrt child in 1818 was isabel and the one in 1840 was mmn Riley which from marriage was Isabel Riley I think it is safe to assume Betty was incorrect (unless she was sister/sister-in-law - there were also children born to a Robert & Betty Shuttleworth) |
