Find Ancestors

I am looking for John Mcfiggins born 1850 in Scotland. He married a canadian lady Charlotte Fraser b1857 in 1885.
I am guessing he would have emigrated to Canada and married and later moved to Rochester Monroe New York where they had a family and he died in 1917.
Off course he maybe went straight to the States and meet and married Charlotte there.
Can anyone suggest a source to find passenger list for voyages or perhaps offer any other ideas

The 1900 New York census shows that he immigrated to the U.S. in 1861. Number of years in the United States: 40. Charlotte is shown immigrating in 1860, living in the U.S. 40 years.
Donald, born Apr 1877, "son" of John, is shown as born in Canada, father was born in Canada, mother in New York. Donald immigrated in 1880.
Fred, born Sept 1869, "son" of John, is shown as born in New York, father was born in Canada, mother in New York.

John's birthplace is Canada Sc. It would be interesting to see the 1910 census, to see if he was born in Canada or Scotland.

Just to check are you saying there where 2 children - Donald and Fred
The only reason I ask is that I thought they had a son
John b 2 Sept 1889 d 4 Jan 1972 - but this info is a bit shady - Could you throw any light on that one???

Jane, are you sure "your" John married someone named Charlotte? You mentioned your John was born in Scotland. So far, this John appears to have been born in Canada.

I noticed this too, My John's parents were Malcolm Mcfiggins and
Elizabeth Moodie both born and died in Scotland. I understood from another source that their son 'the said John' Mcfiggins born May 1850 in Scotland and died in Feb 1917 In New York.
Not sure what other info I need to relate these things together. Maybe a marriage certifitcate.
I believe John and Charlotte were married in 1885 but I can't find a marriage in Scotland and because she was Canadian i right or wrongly assumed that they married overseas!!!

Thank you both so much for searching on my behalf - just need to clear up when and where John emigrated .
The info you have given suggests that John was born in Canada but that doesn't tie up - so I have a bit more sorting to do!!

We can keep looking around, but until we can find a connection, I'm not too sure this is the correct family.

Did someone say John married someone named Charlotte in 1885? Or, did you get that from the census record?

If you were told they married, then this could very well be the correct family.

Before I continue with American information, let me see if I can find John in Canada.

I hope I didn't scare Alviegal off. Sometimes, three heads are better than two. :( (Actually, most times, if I'm involved. )
