John i cannot search for a marriage in Scotland but can see search and see image pages on Ancestry for England but no luck with this pair yet!Pity you cannot find a childs birth in Scotland for them as my one birth entry for one of my family in in Scotland gave me his parents date and place of marriage.Elizabeth would be a good one to find if she was really born in Scotland if only to dismiss this family! |

For info i think this is the Rebecca Moorcroft (Morecroft) who may have married a Henry Martin (the marriage ref that could be them is 1847) |

Well I haven't been idle but......spent a long time looking for the Henry Martin missing from the Burnley family in 1871. Still haven't found him. He doesn't appear to be an inmate/patient/pauper/lodger/brother/cousin etc etc anywhere else. There are plenty of Henry Martin's as head of family. Got any bigamists in your family John? haha. |

Thanks John. As Henry's occuppation on Rebecca junior's birth reg is 'Furnaceman' that seems pretty conclusive that she is the Rebecca in the Burnley family on the Census' and the second piece of evidence confirming Rebecca senior's maiden name as Carnachan. So there was a Mary born into this family (probably George's twin) but we don't yet know what happened to her. Also on the birth reg in Nov 1855 henry's age was given as 30 and Rebecca's as 25 so that is helpful for our searches. What's to bet the deceased male child's name was Henry?? |

Looks like Rennie Boomer is likely to be Rebecca junior's cousin then as her birth address is 1 Hartfield street? |

Ah but we still might find a connection somewhere. This Henry & Rebecca got married March 1852 so she must have been about 21/22 then because in Nov 1855 she was 25. It's not inconceivable that she was born Rebecca McEwan and had a brief former marriage to someone called Carnochan.......................maybe............lol |

Hi Ann I think we've been following two families, the Great Crosby one and the Burnley one. The main thing excluding the Great Crosby Mary is that if she was born/baptised May 1859 she would only be 16 when she married in Dec 1876. (I think John also found that family when he went to Great Crosby library and the mother was Rebecca Moorcroft?) The Burnley family looks more promising but still doesn't fit with John's family. |

Probably both the right family even though Rebecca's age should be about 67. Henry's death date explains why Rebecca was 'widowed' in 1881 but 'married' in 1871. Doesn't explain where Henry WAS in 1871 though! |
