Hello Flo,
Sorry for delay in replying .... post took a while to catch up I think cos of bad weather!
Ok the death cert for Henry Y Davison that I ordered - 1925, Salford wasn't him unfortunately.
I received Henry's father's birth certificate -
Name : George Edgar Davison. Born : 7th June 1862 - Town Street, Armley. Father : John Davison Mother: Elizabeth Davison formely Wilks. Father Occ : Chemist & Druggie.
Ok I think I found the Parent's marriage in 1859 reg in Leeds.
As for anything else I am still completely stuck ! Still no birth, death for Henry, no death for George or Ellen (Hoare) either !
I received some info about Henry's service time and I now know that he left the Army due to sickness in 1919.
But still no death found !!!
Any info would be appreciated .
Look forward to hearing from you .
Donna.

Morning Flo,
What can I say, thank you for all the information that you have found.
On Henry & Ellen's marriage cert :
11th March 1913 - Henry Davison age 21 years Ellen Hoare age 18 years
It states Henry's father as George Edgar Davison (Deceased) and his occupation as a Dairyman.
Obviously that is what occupation Henry had stated for his father.
It's a case of trying to piece it together now.
Again your help is much appreciated.

Hello again Flo,
Done some trawling myself in regards to George H.Hardie & Elizabeth.
I found this in 1901:
1901 England Census about George H Hardie
Name: George H Hardie Age: 60 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1841 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Elizabeth Gender: Male Where born: Blamann, Monmouthshire, Wales Civil Parish: Ealing Ecclesiastical parish: St Mary Town: Ealing County/Island: Middlesex Country: England Street address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:
Education:
Employment status: View Image Registration district: Brentford Sub registration district: Brentford ED, institution, or vessel: 23 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 63
Household Members:
George H Hardie 60 Elizabeth Hardie 70 Edgar W Davison 14
Source Citation: Class: RG13; Piece: 1193; Folio: 57; Page: 12.
It states Edgar W Davison as adopted-son.
I looked for a birth and Edgar Wilks Davison was born 1887. (note that his middle name is Elizabeth's maiden name.)
I am a little puzzled as Elizabeth married George Henry Hardie in 1867 but the adopted son has her previous husband's surname??
I am quite sure that I found John Davison's death in 1866 registered in Kirkstall (which 2 years previous is the same district as where son Frederick was registered).
Seems a little strange adopting a son under previous husband's surname???
Can't quite figure that out yet.

Hi Flo,
Ok this is what I found on (the very expensive!) 1911 census.
1911 Census Household Transcript HARDIE, ELIZABETH -HEAD -WIDOW -F -82 -LEEDS YORKSHIRE DAVISON, JOHN-SON -MARRIED -M -46 -MECHANIC -LEEDS-YORKSHIRE HARDIE, EDGAR -GRANDSON -SINGLE -M -24 -SALESMAN-MANCHESTER LANC'S Address 28 LLANVER ST LATHBURY RD HARPURHEY MANCHESTER
ok so the Edgar Davison I found previously on 1901 stated as ad-son , now seems to be on the 1911 as Grandson and is now a Hardie!!! Eh??
Elizabeth is a widow so George H. Hardy must have died between 1901 & 1911.
The son John named here I imagine to be Frederick John Wilks Davison.
I am a little confused !!!

Hello Flo,
Many thanks again for your trawling, it is very much appreciated.
I was beginning to wonder if Henry was born in 1892.
What you suggested could be right.
It may be worth getting that cert.
Where are they in 1891 ??? Grrrr !
Thanks again.

Morning Flo,
Well still at it, so determined to sort it out, slowly but hopefully surely.
Anyway, I did figure out this:
George Edgar's sister Mary Lydia Davison b.1859.
In the census you found in 1901, Mary & Edgar (George) are living with brother Frederick JW.
If you look at original image, living next door is George & Sarah Steed.
In 1908 Sarah died age 55 and a year later Mary Lydia Davison married George Steed.
I have found them living in Sudbury St, Manchester on their own in the 1911 census.
I was hoping to find George Edgar or Henry there but no such luck.
Will keep trying !!!

Brain ticking, brain ticking.............
Maybe that birth that you found in 1893 is the right Henry, as you say it is the right area - that could very well be him.
There again like you said, maybe he was reg under his mother's name.....
I wonder............
I will send for that birth cert because I got a feeling in my gut..... :-)
What info are you thinking about Ellen???

Hi Flo,
Thank you for your last message.
I have now ordered that birth cert that you suggested earlier for Henry registered in Manchester. Fingers crossed!
Here is the info that I have on Ellen so far :
Ellen Hoare Born on the 26th Feb 1896 in Bradwell, Essex. Baptised on 29th Mar 1896 in Bradwell, Essex.
This is Ellen in the 1901 census.
Name: Ellen Hoare Age: 5 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1896 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: David Mother's Name: Louisa Gender: Female Where born: Bradwell, Essex, England Civil Parish: Dover Ecclesiastical parish:Hougham Christ Church Town: Dover County/Island: Kent Country: England Street address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:
Education:
Employment status: View Image Registration district: Dover Sub registration district: St Mary ED, institution, or vessel: 10 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 81 Household Members: Name Age David Hoare 42 Louisa Hoare 44 Mary Hoare 11 David Hoare 6 Ellen Hoare 5 Frederick Hoare 3 Albert Hoare 2
In the 1911 census:
HOARE, DAVID -HEAD - MARRIED -M -51 -NAVAL PENSIONER DOCK HAND ADMIRALTY DREDGING - BORN in HAMPSHIRE TADLEY HOARE, LOUISA -WIFE -MARRIED for 29 yrs -F -53- BORN in HEREFORDSHIRE ROSS . HOARE, DAVID -SON -SINGLE -M -16 - BORN in ESSEX HARNISH HOARE, ELLEN-DAUGHTER -SINGLE -F -15 - BORN in ESSEX BRADWELL . HOARE, FREDERICK -SON -M -13 -SCHOLAR-BORN in ESSEX,BRADWELL HOARE, ALBERT -SON -M -12 -SCHOLAR - BORN in ESSEX BRADWELL.
The address they were living at on this census in 1911 is:
43 Church Road, Dover, Kent.
Now this is some of the info I received about Henry from the curator of the Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment's Museum:
"I have looked through our records and I see that Henry Davison enlisted into the King's Own on 21st October 1911 and after his basic training at Bowerham Barracks, in Lancaster, the regimental depot, I suspect he transferred to the 1st Battalion and remained with them. He is recorded as having been with them in January 1914 when he was promoted to Corporal. They were based in Dover at this time."
So I guess that's how they probably met, through Henry being based in Dover at that time, which is obviously where Ellen and her family lived.
On her marriage cert she was living in Elms Vale Road in Dover,Kent thats in 1913.
From her children's certs : 1915 - Eric Street, Dover, Kent 1916 - Worthington Street, Dover, Kent. 1917 - Salford 1921 - Salford 1924 - Dover, Kent. 1926 - Dover, Kent 1928 - Dover, Kent.
1928 - that's the last trace I have of Ellen. She would have been just coming up to her 32nd birthday.
Thanks again immensely for your help.
Donna.

Morning Flo,
I had a night of brain ticking thinking,
In that information that I received about Henry's service, it said he enlisted into the regiment in October 1911 after training. The census was taken April 2nd/3rd.
So where is he in the 1911 census?? He must be somewhere doing his training! Lancaster maybe...
I am going to search again !

Hello Flo,
What you said earlier very much makes sense!!!
And I ordered the certificate for the Henry Davison b.1893 in Manchester that you suggested yesterday - that will answer if it is him in the census too!
I found this in the 1911 census (at first I thought I got the wrong Henry Davison until you put that info earlier!) take a look ......
MILLER, THOMAS - HEAD- MARRIED- M-48-HOUSE PAINTER-LANCS SALFORD MILLER,ANNIE - WIFE - MARRIED for 4 years- F -48- LANCS- MANCHESTER MILLER, AGNES-DAUGHTER-SINGLE -F-16-ERRAND GIRL-LANCS SALFORD DAVISON, HENRY-STEPSON-SINGLE- M-17-TROLLEY BOY-LANCS MANCHESTER
Address : 2 SARAH ST, SALFORD, MANCHESTER.
Now then, what you found in 1901 with Annie, I looked through marriages & found in 1919 - Annie Davison married Thomas Miller !
Now obviously Annie being a Davison, I guess she must have married George but it's finding her maiden name and the marriage.
Being even more sure now that the cert we ordered is the correct one, that will give the details but I will probably have a root around whilst waiting for it to arrive.
I hope it's all good and we are on the right trail !
Thanks for all your help and persistance with this.
Donna.

The 1911 that I looked at about the Annie & Henry that you found in 1901,
if you look at my last post, it says the address as 2 Sarah Street, Salford.
Now if you go back to page 1 of our topic , I pasted on the board the National roll entry for Henry Davison.
AND AND AND AND......what's the address?
2 Sarah Street, Salford !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woo HOOOOOOOOOO!
That's gotta be him !!!
I could hug you !!!
Will wait for the cert just to confirm but it's gotta be surely????
Let me know what you think !!??

Flo,
I wonder if this is Henry's mother in 1891 :
1891 England Census about Annie Davison Name: Annie Davison [Annie Allison] Age: 28 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1863 Relation: Daughter Mother's Name: Jane Gender: Female Where born: Manchester, Lancashire, England Civil Parish: Beswick Ecclesiastical parish: Beswick and Bradford Christchurch County/Island: Lancashire Country: England Street address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:
Education:
Employment status: View Image Registration district: Prestwich Sub registration district: Newton ED, institution, or vessel: 43 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Jane Allison 49 John Allison 19 William Allison 7 Annie Davison 28 If you look at original image it states her as married.
Do you think this could be her marriage to "George"?
Marriages Dec 1885 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALLISON Annie Sheffield 9c 671 <<<<< DAVISON Edgar Sheffield 9c 671 <<<<<
What do you think??

Ok Flo,
thanks for your last post.
I think the daughter Agnes that was born a year after Henry in c1894 is Thomas Miller's daughter not Annie's.
I looked in the 1901 census for Agnes and found her with her family as follows :
1901 England Census about Agnes Miller
Name: Agnes Miller Age: 6 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1895 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: Thomas Mother's Name: Margaret Gender: Female Where born: Manchester, Lancashire, England Civil Parish: South Manchester Ecclesiastical parish: St Stephen County/Island: Lancashire Country: England Street address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:
Education:
Employment status: View Image Registration district: Chorlton Sub registration district: Hulme ED, institution, or vessel: 59 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 13 Household Members: Name Age
Thomas Miller 38 Margaret Miller 39 Margaret Miller 11 Catherine Miller 9 Agnes Miller 6
Now having a look through deaths I believe Agnes's mother Margaret died in 1902 -registered in Salford.
Widow Thomas then went on to marry Annie.
I can't wait much longer for the cert to arrive!!!! Hurry Up Please !!! Donna.
