If anyone does I wonder if they would do a look up for me please.

Does anyone pay for the Worldwide subscription on Ancestry? I have relatives in America and Australia and wonder if it's worth paying to upgrade.

I would say yes it is worth it to upgrade to worldwide. Do you want a look up?

MaggyfromWestYorkshire Report 11 Jan 2009 19:51

That's the one Suzanne.

He apparently joined up for the Australian army in 1915 and I want to know where he went from there. I have a feeling that he may have stayed in Australia, but he had a family over here. I know he was discharged from the army in 1917, but then have lost track of him, but he is listed in the Australian Electoral Rolls, but I don't know when.

He is the brother of my grandad, but I hope that if I find him in Australia his mother (my great grandmother) may be with him, because she seems to have disappeared!!

Thank you for that Tony, that fits in with the info that I already have. He was born in 1886.

Not sure about his father because he was illegitimate, but he was obvious called Stephenson because John and his brother had that as their middle name.

His mother's name was Elizabeth, so that fits but not Tate as the surname, she married someone called George Wood. Wonder if she remarried then.

Another mystery then, I seem to be making more than I'm solving!

Thanks again for looking, it's much appreciated.

MaggyfromWestYorkshire Report 11 Jan 2009 21:26

Just noticed that you'd put his wife's death too. Now she is a mystery! I have his marriage certificate and he got married in 1912 to Mabel Healey in Altofts, West Yorkshire, England. I can't find a death for her.

The plot thickens!!

Hi Maggy. Because i was born in Melbourne Vic. i naturally carry the BDM's for the State of Victoria on c.d......, as this is where my lot came to from the U.K
in the 1850s onwards..... Yorkshire, Essex, Lancashire, Wiltshire

MaggyfromWestYorkshire Report 11 Jan 2009 21:42

Aahh that explains it then! Thanks anyway, you've answered a few questions for me, but I still have lots more to solve...lol..

Looks like you have found John's mother, Elizabeth, my great great grandmother too. Wondered where she'd got to! Her husband George Wood looks like he remarried in Bridlington, England in 1911, so funny goings-on there too!!
