me again!

I was wondering if someone could confirm something for me

My grandads dad was Ernest and his mother was Winifred Ashley

Ernest was born in 1869 and I've got a rough dob of 1915 for Winifred with a marriage date of 1932

That would mean Winifred was 17 and Ernest was 63!!!!!! Was this common or am I missing something?

Just nudging this up!

Jeeberella Report 13 Jan 2009 11:06

Had another look on family search and managed to find:

John Henry's wife and marriage date
A marriage and daughter for their daughter Ada Copeland as well as her daughter's marriage

Stephen Copeland wife's details and marriage

Stephen's parents and marriage details

Stephen's grandparents

So I'm finally getting somewhere hoorah!

thanks ozi, wouldn't have been able to get it if it wasn't for you so thank you.

i typed everything up and sent it to my dad who in turn showed it to my nana, and she saw names she'd forgotten about

me again!

My nana's remembered an uncle Arthur. He married an Alice and they had 2 children (no dates or locations though sorry).

So he would have been Amelia's brother. He's not on the 1901 census as living with Stephen and Sarah so I assume he was born after this. I've checked BMD and there are two potential records, both being in Norton, Stoke On Trent, one in 1904 and the other in 1905.

I've also searched trees on here and mailed the cloest possible matches.

The siblings I do have on the 1901 census are George T born 1896 and Florence born 1900.

Any ideas?

hi back again!

I'm desperately trying not to get frustrated but I'm failing miserably.

I've showed my nana all the info everyone has very kindly found for me and she's insisting it's wrong despite not knowing what is correct!

She's got it into her head that Amelia had a brother called Arthur Copeland (can't find any record of an arthur except for a possible marriage of her sister to an Arthur).

And her dad was called Samuel and not Stephen. Amelia had a brotehr called Samuel so maybe that's where she got the name from!

When I asked her how she was so sure she said she wasn't, but still insists that not only am I wrong, but the census records are as well!

How do I deal with that?

Difficult to know how to help you Natasha as we don't know your grandmother's condition.

If I'm correct after this long thread, Amelia Copeland is your grandmother's mother. Correct?

Therefore Stephen/Samuel Copeland is her grandfather. Correct? It wouldn't surprise me if she'd muddle her grandfather's name. But really the only way for you to know for sure is to get Amelia's marriage cert.

Ozi.

Hi Ozi

Thanks for replying!

My nana's fine, she's always been very stubborn though, and insists she's always right which is annoying to say the least.

Yes Amelia was her mother, so Stephen would have been her grandfather.

I guess I'll have to fork out for the certificate just to keep her happy.

Just annoyed that despite the fact she doesn't know either, she insists I'm wrong, when it's probably just a case of she's got the names in a muddle!
