Ah thank you MarieCeleste. I did not think of this. I am already in touch with a branch descended from part of the tree and I see that they have her marrying a William Ferguson in 1891 in Hartlepool, County Durham. Maybe this Mary Jane Magee was unoffically adopted and took that family name at that specific time? |

Peter if you go back to page 1 you'll see AnnCardiff posted (a few years back!) an 1881 census that showed a May J Magee, that most likely is the lass who married Robert Sproat in 1891. |

Wow thank you for all of this wonderful information! I have been offline for a few days but this is fantastic! With this, can I ask a question ... who on earth is Mary Jane Magee who marred Mr Sproat ... I suppose she was the daughter of Mary Magee (illegitimate), before she married John Quigley? |

This might be why I can't see John in the 1911: |

The children in 1911. Did they have an older sister Mary Jane who married Robert William Sproat? |

Closest one I can see is this one, Thornaby being part of Middlesbrough but it says she was born Castle Eden, Durham. |

Thanks there - you have found them. Can you spot John or the children in 1901/1911? |

This 1891 has been transcribed as Margaret, but it's definitely Mary A on the original: |

Peter - have you found John Quigley in 1881/91? Did they have any children? |

Hmmmmm not sure about John in court in 1873 - could be but nothing to say for definite. And I think the John Magee in 1891 and 1901 is a nephew of John Magee (b 1852). |

If it is John A b. Hutton Henry then he is on the 1891/1901 Census for Easington.."McGee" |

I woner if this could be your John Magee? He was charged with attempting to obtain money by false pretence and was acquitted. |

This is the 1871 for the family originally queried, but South Wingate is over 20 miles from Stokesley? |

Peter, could you confirm the last census you have him on, and his occupation? Details of any wife and children, too. There are loads of John Magees emigrating so need to narrow it down. |
