Hi All,
I have been onto Ancestry and found a relatives name I am looking for but sadly I am only subscribed to UK and cannot view it.
His name is Eddie Sylvond and he lived in Pennsylvania, this is all the info I have of him, we have a photo of My Gran with him on a visit in the 1950's and he looked as though he was about 18 - 21. We also know that my Gran (Lettice Annie Fitt b1886 Swansea) visited them in 1947.
On Ancestry the name Eddie Sylvond, Pennsylvania is in the US School Yearbooks and as I said before I do not have subscription to view, so I was hoping that some kind soul here would take pity on me and have a look, pretty please, this is a real mystery to us all and would dearly love to find our American relatives.
The other thing we know is that when he came over with his brother, they were visiting and having a holiday before their draft into the Military
Fingers crossed someone can help me in this mystery

Sheila,
I'm coming up with zero matches for the surname Sylvond. Are you 100% with the spelling?

Hi Rose
We got the name off the back of a photo of my Gran and Eddie, the surname looked like Sylvond/Sylvand. We scrutinised it to make sure it was an 'l' and not a 'm' sorry I am a bit vague but this is all the info I have on him.
We were also told it was our Grans, stepsister or half sister's son, no one seems to be absolutely sure about the 'sister's' name, but Kitty seems to be one that they come up with. If only we had asked more questions when they were alive
Thank you for having a look for me it is very much appreciated

Sheila,
You said you found a match on Ancestry. What surname were you using because I'm finding nothing?

Hi Rose
When I first tried the name as Eddie Sylvond from Pennsylvania born about 1930 I had a hit for US School yearbook. I have tried since and it isn't showing, I am wondering if it is a ploy from Ancestry to get me to pay the extra subscription now.
This name has been driving me around the bend, I know that my Gran had a half brother born in Belgium in 1874 Johannes Ludivicus Mottoul alias John Mottoul on Swansea 1901 census and he married a Ann Etienne formerly Giraud in 1913 but when I searched the film at the LDS could not find a half sister. I don't think I will ever get to the bottom of this one
Once again thanks for trying for me

Hi Sheila,
I think you must have typed something else in to get a match. There are just no instances of that surname anywhere. We just need to figure out what it must be.
Obviously, Eddie must have been a relative for your Gran to visit. What about on her mother's side?

After googling, I think Fitt is the last name. (Married name, that is.)

Sheila: I tried a few times, only seeing the yearbook notation twice. Both times when I tried to view the image, I couldn't see any reference to him.
I tried googling Hanover, Pennsylvania and various spelling of his name and didn't see anything.
I also don't see (yet) Lettice arriving in America. I cannot view UK Incoming lists; I wonder if she might be on one of them? Do you know if she was know as Lettice, or Annie, please?

Hi Lorraine
My Gran left Southampton sometime in 1947 her name is Lettice Annie Fitt but she was called Annie, I don't have the exact date when she came back to Southampton though, I just know she stayed for a while. Sometimes I have noticed that Lettice is spelt Letice and Letitia
My sister seems to think that the family had a fire in their house and some of the Eddie's siblings were killed but I cannot be sure of that, her memory isn't so good these days. I hope she has told me the right year, I am wondering if it might have been 1949 now as she said it was just before I was born and she keeps putting me a couple of years older than I am, bless her
I do know that when the Sylvond boys came over to the UK to visit my Gran they brought with them a pink cadilac (not sure if spelt that right) car to tour around England. It was to be a holiday of a lifetime as they were being drafted into the Military when they got back to America.
My Gran lived in Birmingham Warwickshire England when they visited and they caused such a stir with their clothes and the car everyone thought they were filmstars. Mind you the photo we have of Eddie it's no wonder
Thank you for your time and help

There is a Lettice A Fity on the UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960, arriving, Southampton, England. Cannot view further details. ------------- I just read your post...If someone can access the UK record, it might give more clues. Wow, what a lot of interesting things you mentioned! It sure brings life to the names.

Thank you so much for the info your a star
Wow, she was on the Queen Elizabeth too, the lucky old thing, the address is hers, so I know it is the right one.
I wonder why New York!!! do you think it was the major one of the time!!!
Its a shame they don't give us who they are visiting isn't it but I expect that would be too easy for us all, just know that photo is haunting me and I wish I could get to the bottom of it
Thank again Lorraine you have been a great help in solving another mystery

Rose, it must be an Ancestry problem. There are several Eddie's and after trying a few yearbooks, I don't see any mention on the pages for Eddie Sylvond!
