There may be quite a few Browell's in Colorado, but... http://www.aclin.org/ search text: Browell 5. Browell family file. "Family files contain biographical and/or genealogical information about people from this area of Colorado. Each file contains material pertaining to people who share a family name. Expect to find newspaper clippings, family charts, transcriptions of interviews, correspondence, references to further resources outside the file itself, etc. These files may be viewed at the Royal Gorge Regional Museum and History Center at 612 Royal Gorge Boulevard in Canon City, Colorado."
I'm not sure how you can view it, but I wanted to mention it anyway.
This site also has digital collections and newspapers, but I didn't see anything for your Browell. --------------------- A few photographs of the Union Printers' Home http://www.ppld.org/SpecialCollections/project/BySubject.aspx
Here are some wonderful photographs of Colorado, from most decades: http://www.ppld.org/SpecialCollections/project/

Hello Lisa,
I am totally convinced this is my Gt grandfathers brother James. Below I have C&P his Obituary for you to read. His parents are also mentioned, they are my Gt gt Grandparents..
OBITUARY: Browell.-At the union home.Colorado Springs.America On Nov 30th.aged 35yrs. James Martin. Son of Hannah Jane and the late William Henry Browell and beloved husband of Thomasin Browell of this city- Evening Chronicle 1893.
The Evening Chronicle is in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. I assume it has to be my Gr grandmother or one of James Siblings who had put the obituary in the paper.
James brother (my gt Grandfather) was only 40yrs of age when he died,
I cannot than you enough for all the information you have found & given me. I am in debt with you.
I am a novice when it comes to searching the internet.
I have`nt found the birth of Eleanor Browell.
Many Thanks again. Linda x

Hi Linda: Living in California, born in Ontario, Canada with Irish and English ancestors - I've learned how to search the internet! ;)
I may be incorrect, but I wonder if Thomasin was still living in "this city"? Or, did the notice strictly mean James "of this city"?
If you receive information from the cemetery office, I would love to hear what they say.
The information I gave you must be for your James. Browell apparently was a somewhat uncommon name in North America. By the way, I have a Brownell/Browning ancestor; it's difficult to find their information as well! Sometimes the uncommon names are harder to find than the common names.
Knowing that James is "yours" I will look again for Thomasin(a) and Eleanor.
It's sad to hear about the early deaths, but perhaps in James' case, it could have had something to do with the extreme weather?
I also tried looking in Canada for Thomasin(a), with no results.
Off now to search again. :)

Clutching at straws...on FreeBMD There is a birth for a Bertie Browell Mar 1885, Newcastle T. You mentioned there are Eleanor's in the family. Perhaps she was known by her middle name until she was older (and other older rellies passed away)?
In one of my families, James was a common name. In order to avoid confusion, the children were not called James until they were older, and until the older James men had died.
There is also an Edward Browell, Dec 1886, Newcastle T. I wonder if either child was James and Thomasin(a)'s?

There is an Edward Browell, 1901 England Census, Northumberland. I wonder if he is the same Edward as above? If so, would that entry give you any clues to your family?

Hi Lisa.
I think "this city`` means Newcastle upon Tyne.England. I think it was mean`t for James.
I read up about the Union printers home, very interesting, it was opened in 1890 solely for the printers, it was for the men who became very sick mainly T.B., The wives & Widows were not allowed to visit the home at all.
reading the information it sounds the men went in the home alive came out Dead. It is now a Hospital.!
The name `Browell`` is mainly from the North-East of England, it is a rare name even moreso now.
I am going to start writing that letter, I will certainly let you know if I hear anything back.
Many thanks Linda x

Hi Lisa.
I do know James middle name was` Martin` as this is his mothers Maiden name.
I am also going to search BMDs at the library to see if I can find a Birth of Eleanor Browell, if yes then I will check with the relevent office to see if it is the same parents.
I wish I knew how to get the address to send for James Death Certificate to find who registered him.

Hi Linda: :( What a sad way to end a life; not being able to see your loved ones. I wonder what James' letter said? Perhaps you could find out additional information by following that lead???
I've been looking around and don't see anything new. I have to get some things done now (it's midday here) but will be back later tonight.
Don't remember if it's been discussed...have you looked for Thomasina in England in 1891?

Linda: You might be able to use this site, to ask if they have directories for Colorado Springs. Perhaps Thomasin(a) might be in a Colorado Springs directory in 1894 or 1895. Or, James might be in one in 1891, which could let you know where they were living prior to the union home. They also may be able to tell you how to order a death certificate. http://www.askcolorado.org/info/index.html

Hello Lisa & ***alviegal***
I Emailed the Cemetery, I have had a reply, they were able to tell me his burial Date & plot No too. There was no other family that had been buried there. No mention of his wife. The Cemetery was mainly for the Printers. They kindly gave me the address where to send for his Death Certificate
I searched for a Birth on Eleanor Browell 1886. In the St Catherine`s Index. I could`nt find her in that year...I looked into Jan / feb/ mar Qtr 1887. unfortunately the Index was unreadable.

Linda: I would be interested to hear how this all turns out!
Alviegal, thank you for the lookups. I'm surprised we can't find Thomasin in 1890/1891. I have a feeling that she was back in the UK by then, but I'll take another peek in America in case I missed something. (I can't search Canadian records thoroughly, or I would look there, as well.)

Well done Jeanette! I really think you may have found her. The image could definately be Browell and she is married but hubby is not there. She is living at 11 Railway Place and next door is a 22 year old coalminer born in Pelton, named Thomas Todd with his wife Jane and 10 month old son James, who was born in Felling.
