Hi, Can you help please. I have the GRO certificate for the wedding of Daniel Bailey in April 1864 at the RC church in Chelsea to Martina Oates. After the birth of his "only child " William in 1865 he ( Daniel ) can't be found . I need to apply for his Birth & Death Certificates .The marriage lines state he was born in Woodley Berks and his age was listed as 19 years, his occupation was Blacksmith.I can't find anything for him .So his birth and death are a mystery to me. Daniel is my 2nd Greatgrand Father. |

I've not known a marriage cert to say where someone was born but I could be wrong on that. What is Daniel's father called on the marriage cert? |

That would only have made him 17, not unheard of. |

Ah that solves that riddle. So, he's obviously not dead in 1871. So wonder where he is. |

Sorry been off to Lunch ---Yes Daniel did marry Martina Oates . Daniel was Living in Woodley at the time of his marriage.I don't know where he was born. At some stage Martina became Emily whether she was born Martina Oates or Emily I don't know. She lived at 2a Princes Street Chelsea, and her father was a Butler --- Daniel's father was Daniel Pearce Bailey and he was born in Cold Ash and also a Blacksmith |

Looks like the 1861 entry that Susan posted is right one then. Which means he was a fibber on his marriage cert and he was only 17 and Swallowfields appears to fall under wokingham registration district making Fairthorn's birth likely. |

Yor could be right but 17 years old. I wonder if it was a 'Shot Gun " wedding. If Martina's father was a Butler,it very well could be. I have no idea when he died . I have just Googled Princes Street Chelsea and it took me to Hanover Sqr: and a very large house. Was Martina/Emily a Widow on the 1881 census ???? |

As I say, it says her sister, she's also a widow, but as she's considerably older she may even be a half-sister or Daniel's sister. |

1841 - Emily's mother. Is this her father (or is it Maria's father)? If so then it looks like their surname should have been Oates Travers (or perhaps just Travers if Oates was his middle name). I think it says he's in the army. |
