Hi Carole

Try Hugh Wallis batch numbers

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hugh
wallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryScotland.htm#PageTitle
(needs putting back together, no spaces
)
They don't have any submitted records so tend to be more accurate. You search by the village/town church for a surname you can then refine the search using the batch number. It also helps that you can see the years available (or not) for a particular area. I did notice earlier when I looked for Roberts birth that only girls were listed in that batch!?!

Has Ancestry put Huge Wallis back?? I couldn't get him last week: started a thread and was told there was a virus.
I hope it is resolved? I haven't tried since. I normally use it all the time!

Just tried it.
Thank goodness it is back!
I don't know how I would have managed?
And to think; I almost removed it from my bookmarks as I had a feeling that It was in Ancestry's best interest NOT to resolve it.
How wrong can one be?
Sorry Ancestry!!!

Thanks for tonight's efforts.
As it is now 1:45 here, I am going to bed.
I'll have a play with Huge Wallis in the morning.
Hasta manana

Hello!
I'm getting brain ache!!
If nothing emerges today; I think we quit for now.
I hate giving up but I don't know where else, or how else to look?
I need a tutorial on alternative search techniques.
I'm giving it until midnight but if you want to bow out now, that's OK with me. I understand how frustrating it is; flogging a dead horse!
Thanks for your interest this far.

Hi Carole
Haven't been idle but haven't found anything useful. Trying to track the Mrs Murdoch he left behind but as you move throgh the census' to disprove likely candidates there is a quagmire of Murdochs! The potential in Stirling Janet nee Sneddon is in the 1861 census in Falkirk with sons William 8 and Robert 2 but no husband. IGI extracted record for her son confirms he was born to Robert Murdoch and Janet Sneddon. In 1871 she has aquired another son 'Jos' aged 5 and under occupation it says 'widow'. So she looks unlikely still...........I can understand your frustration-that's why I'm here taking a break from my own research. If I find anything else before midnight I'll let you know but otherwise please let us know if you uncover this mystery in the future!
best wishes
Julie

Absolutely NOTHING!!!
Such a shame.
Never mind, it doesn't actually interfere with the backwards progression of my tree. The sole purpose of finding the wife, was to see if it helped solve a few intriguing questions? They can wait....
Thank you anyone who has helped; especially Julie , who I'm new to, .... and Lost for Words who keeps popping in and out of my life. Plus Susan who generously used her Scotlandspeople credits to help. You have been brilliant but it is time to 'put this baby to bed'!!! ... for now.
But you won't have seen the last of me, or the Montgomerys, Murdochs, Pettigrews or Carrs.
WATCH THIS SPACE!!!
Keep up the good work!
Carole
