Thank you Margaret, that has given me something to ponder over. The dates take some thinking about but as my g-g-hrandfather originated from Oakham, Rutland there certainly seemed to be a lot of travelling about. I tracked them to the 1861 census and just the two of them were living in east London, so I guess the family had flown the nest. Baseborn son eh? I guess the present generation are going to cause a whole lot more difficullty to history researchers in the distant future!

Margaret, I've been doing a bit of digging and I'd like your opinion of a posibilty on the baseborn son.
I have found a James Lovegrove on the 1841 census for Stepney 10 107/713/9.
James age 31 Tinplate worker NOT born in area
wife Alice age 30 Not born in area
dau Mary Ann 8 Born in area
dau Alice 6 Born in area
dau Harriet 11mths Born in area
all living at Bridge street, stepney/Mile end.
This area would be close to where Robert & Letitia resided much of the time. Also the eldest child could have been named after her grandmother?
Your thoughts would be appreciated

Hi Margaret,

I am having trouble with Gilbert G Larner born 1910 in Oxford.

I believe his mother is Mary Ellen/Ellen/Nellie Larner. I am having a lot of trouble finding a definate mother or father or a marriage between parents.

Can you help at all?

Thanks

I have an Arthur Hunt whose birthplace I am trying to track down. His father was Reuben/Ruben (almost certainly) and he (Arthur) was born around 1823-24.

The Census records give various places for his birth, and sometimes have a town which was not even in the county listed next to it! :(

Anyway, one of the references mentions Oxfordshire so if there are any mentions of an Arthur Hunt in Oxfordshire in this time period I would be very grateful for them! :)

Thanks in advance.

Hello again Margaret.

You were kind enough to check for records of the Dyer family in Hailey and Witney around 1855. These have been very helpful, but have thrown up a query which I need to resolve. I hope you can help.

I need details of a wedding in 1898 between Ada Fanny Dyer and Ernest John Chandler. I suspect this will be in Hailey, though Witney is possible.
I believe Ada's father to be Robert Dyer. Interested also in witnesses.

Would you be kind enough to take a look for me.

Many thanks.

Can you help me with finding about William Lay born abt 1795 Witney , went to live in Charlbury . He married a Mary as far as I know but I am not sure what her surname was, as far as I can see they had 4 children, by the 1861 cenus he was a widower living at Marlborough Arms.
Cheers
Mary

MARY
William Lay married in Charlbury to Mary Ansty 13/9/1821
his parents may have been
William Lay who married Elizabeth Hawkins in Witney 24/3/1789
and also married
Ann Castell in Witney both widows 4/2/1797
I am adding this as you mentioned that Wm Lay 1795 was born in Witney. You of course are quite free to ignore the marriages..
Anyway hope the information helps.
