STEPHEN
William Bottrell was baptised 12/5/1811 Wendlebury and married 11/12/1834 in Bicester and was buried 5/3/1875 aged 63 yrs in Bicester of Kings End Bicester.
The only fly in the ointment is that two William Bottrells were baptised in Wendlebury in the course of only a couple of weeks... I will give both of them here
William son of John and Ann bapt 26/5/1811
William son of Samuel and Phoebe 12/5/1811.
both John and Samuel baptised another couple of sons James
John and Ann 16/1/1814 also in Wendlebury
Samuel and Phoebe 24/8/1817 Wendlebury.
As there had been a James Bottrell as a witness with Elizabeth Bottrel at the marriage of William Bottrell your ancestor to his wife in 1834 I had hoped to straighten it out using the James as a brother, but no luck...

STEPHEN continued
To make matters even worse there was a burial in Wendlebury of
William Bottrill aged 2 yrs of this parish 11/5/1813, so one of the two baptised in 1811 had died, but which one.....
As the one I think became your ancestor which I posted in the previous entry being William Bottrell bapt 12/5/1811 in Wendlebury had the following children baptised in Bicester of Kings End
Joseph 14/6/1836 privately received into church 11/9/1836
James born 27/6/1840 baptised 13/7/1840 buried 15/2/1847 aged 7 yrs
Phillis born 14/9/1838 bapt 14/10/1838
Phoebe born 3/1/1842 bapt 13/2/1842
Thomas baptised 15/4/1846 buried 3/3/1851 aged 5 yrs

Margaret Report 19 May 2010 13:22

STEPHEN you will note the two girls named Phillis and Phoebe.
So I opted for the son of Samuel and Phoebe baptised Wendlebury 12/5/1811 as the living child who went on to become your ancestor.
He married Mary Sharman 11/12/1834 in Bicester witnesses Jame Bottrell, Elizabeth Bottrel by License.
Mary Sharman was baptised 23/5/1804 in Bicester daughter of William and Mary. she was buried 12/5/1887 aged 87 yrs in Bicester.
I have given their children in the previous entry.

STEPHEN continued more normally...
Samuel Botterell was baptised 16/2/1783 in Launton and Married 10/9/1809 in Wendlebury
Phoebe Eagles who was baptised in Bicester 6/10/1786 daughter of William and Ann.
Samuel was buried 28/5/1843 aged 60 yrs in Wendlebury
Phoebe was buried 24/11/1858 aged 73 yrs in Wendlebur
they had the following children baptised in Wendlebury
William 12/5/1811
Ann 19/7/1812
John 11/9/1814
James 24/8/1817
Richard 4/7/1819

STEPHEN continued
Thomas 8/7/1821
Joseph 7/9/1823
Sarah 6/11/1825
Phillis 11/10/1829
Samuel Botterell baptised 16/2/1783 was the child of RICHARD AND PHILLIS which confirmed that I was on the right track using the girl children of William 1811 as pointers.
Richard Botterell was baptised 13/4/1757 in Bicester
and married 9/11/1778 in Bicester to
Phillis Harris who was buried 19/6/1810 in Wendlebury,
Richard was buried 10/9/1819 aged 63 yrs in Wendlebury
they had the following children baptised

Margaret Report 19 May 2010 13:32

STEPHEN continued
Richard 30/5/1781 Launton
Samuel 16/2/1783 Launton
Elizabeth 25/7/1785 Launton
Philis 27/1/1788 in Wendlebury
William 4/3/1790 Wendlebury
Sarah 22/4/1792 Wendlebury
Ann 14/9/1794 Wendlebury
Mary 18/9/1796 Wendlebury
James 30/12/1798 Wendlebury
Martha 31/1/1802 Wendlebury
Richard Botterell at his baptism 13/4/1757 was the son of Jno Botterill, whether this is John or Jonathan ? usually Jonathan. But I can find no marriages for a Jonathan nor a John at the correct time about 1755 in Oxfordshire.

Margaret

Margaret Report 19 May 2010 13:34

STEPHEN I hope you agree with my reasoning, using the daughters of William Bottereill 1811's christian names, as the way back.

Hi Margaret,
Thanks so very much for all the information and I think your reasoning is spot on.

I will be visiting my bother in law in Cornwall next week and he will be thrilled with all this information.

Once again, many thanks,

Stephen.

GILL
There are two baptisms in 1719 in Bix
William Wise 18/5/1719 son of William and Sarah
William Wise 8/7/1719 son John and Mary

Gill

Gill Report 20 May 2010 09:02

Hi Margaret

Thank you for the baptisms

Now.... eeny, meeny

Had hoped the baptisms of William & Lydia(Buckridge) Wise's children might give a clue to which William - (all bapt in Bix)

Sarah 1745
William 1747
John 1749
Ann 1752
Mary 1755

Am leaning toward William & Sarah, based soley on those names being given to the two oldest children. The John 1749 could have been named for Lydia's father....

thank you again
Gill

Hi Margaret,

Do you have access to the Woodstock, Oxfordshire PR please? If you do, when you get a spare moment, would you mind seeing if you can find a Francis Loder Prior born c1799 (died 1871 in Woodstock) and a Margaret Loder Prior born 1806 Woodstock (died 1897 in Woodstock). I would very much like to know if they are siblings and share the parents Letitia Loder and James Prior who married in St Giles, Oxford in 1793. I have not been able to find anything on the IGI through the family search website. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks. Nicky
