Hi Margaret
If you have time, could you possibly look for a Joseph Bodrell/Bottrell born c1838, Bicester.
On the 1871 he is living in Upper Machen, Monmouthshire (surname spelling Bodrell) and I think I've found him in 1851 in Bicester with parents William and Mary (surname spelling Bottrell).
Any information you can find would be very much appreciated.

NINJA LADY if the Bottrells are insignificant on your tree I need not go further back, but if they are important, I could take a further look into them. Margaret

CLIFFORD There is a marriage in Abingdon 3quarter 1895 for Frederick William Smith to Beatrice Hayman. You will need to purchase the birth certificate of Ernest John Smith to be certain that this is the marriage of his parents.Otherwise you could go in the completely wrong direction. My records are of parishes, of which many do not go up to the 1900's.

CLIFFORD, we need the birth certificate of Ernest John Smith to know his father and mother's names, then the purchase of their marriage certificate will give the name of Frederick John Smith's father and his occupation. There are too many parishes in Oxford for me to look through them all to find Frederick John Smith's baptism. I have asked for a lookup on the Record Board for Ernest John Smith on the 1911 census perhaps that will give a parish to look in at that period, but it may not be where he was baptised.
