Hi Margaret
Thanks a million for all this info!!
I wonder if I can be really cheeky and ask another couple of questions?
RICHARD FOX Can you tell me what old year means? I have a note about a will dated 1741? Can you throw any light on that? Any idea of birth year?
RICHARD FOX b 1760 d 1819 Did he marry and have children?
THOMAS b 1762 d 1835 re-married 1802. Assume you mean FOX not Smith? Did he and Ann Hayes have any children?
THOMAS + MARTHA
Can you give me any info on other children ie. Thomas b 1787, Elizabeth b 1793, Sussanah b 1795, Charlotte b 1798 and George b 1800. I think I have some for the males but the girls are harder to track down after marriage!!?
Last one!!! Does buried Swalcliffe mean the churchyard?
Thanks again in advance!
Regards Jane

JANE
Old year means that the present date would read 1745, ---then the calendar ran until the end of March so would read 1744, ie 14/3/1744 old year would now be 14/3/1745 you need to make your own mind up which calendar you will use, or do the stroke thing ie 1744/5, they continued to use the old calendar for ages, so in the registers they often appear using the stroke. I have no idea of the birth year for the first Richard Fox.
Yes it should read Fox not Smith.
There were no children for Thomas Fox and Anne Hayes
Swalcliffe means buried in the Swalcliffe church yard.
Hope this makes it clearer.

Hi Margaret,
Please can you see if there is a bapt. record for either a Jemmima, a Jemmima Alice or Alice Jemimma Beckett born Mar Q 1858 Thame area (I am trying to find out who her parents were). I have her on the census but she was living with her grandparents William & Dinah Beckett.
Many thanks, Christine

Hello Margaret
I've purchased the CD of parish records for Witney and surrounds as I've been looking for the connection to my Levetts in Lambeth. There are many Levetts in Witney but not the elusive specific records I'm after.
I am looking for the possible birth c1740 and marriage of a John Levett, a hatter, to Sarah c1760 and also any records on an older John Levett who would be his father c1709, possibly one of the blanket weavers.
Thanking you.

Hi Margaret,
Probably a long shot, but do Parish Records ever include confirmations?
I'm trying to prove whether my gt. aunt Sarah Ellen Jarrett (born 1879) was ever in service at Shellingford House, near Faringdon (although this is probably Berks not Oxfordshire).
I thought perhaps she might have been confirmed there, if she went into service after leaving school - around 12-13 years of age.
However, Sarah is more likely to have been confirmed at her parents' parish church, which was Woodstock. If you have access to such records, would you mind having a look, please?
I'm guessing the year would have been between 1890-1894.
Many thanks
Liz.

Hi Margaret,
Please can I ask for your help once again? Not sure if your records go up to the 1890's but if they do please could you see if there is a bapt. record for a Thomas Frederick Lovegrove c1890 Parents William & Susan, Oxford (St Ebbe area). In the 1891 census there is a Thos K Lovegrove, parents William & Susan and in the freebmd site there is a birth reg. for a Thomas Frederick Lovegrove 1890 but no birth reg. for a Thomas K Lovegrove so I'm trying to establish whether this is the same person. Many thanks Christine.
