No more information from the Ancestry post. What a shame. Back to the drawing board.

Hi Lisa,
Usually to contact someone on Ancestry you click on "tree owner" then click on "contact". The messages go through Ancestry so they don't know your name or address and you don't know theirs unless you choose to exchage addresses.

I can't access their information, but they don't have anything else about Frederick's family.

They do have information about Blanche and her parents:
Frencis Shackell, born 1857
Annie Perry, born 1861

Blanche's siblings:
Annie C Shackell 1881–
Florence D Shackell 1882–
Edith Shackell 1886–
Blanche G Shackell 1887–
Francis Shackell 1889–
Nelly Blanch Shackell 1890–1890
Emma Marion Shackell 1892–
James Shackell 1896–

Perhaps someone can tell you how you can contact the person submitting the information.

I found city directories for Montreal. I do not see Frederick in Montreal 1919-1920. Haven't checked other years.
http://bibnum2.bnquebec.ca/bna/lovell/index.html

Note: According to their immigration record, Emma's mother was Edith "Slacker" (or Shacher) or anything else close to that spelling.

1918 directory has a Fred Ellis, pattern maker.

Hey that does seem to make sense. This now opens up a whole list of questions.
Did they stay in England?
Was his wife from Canada?
What was her surname?
I could go on.

MargaretM Report 17 Aug 2008 19:30

I think what Lisa is saying makes sense. If they were going back to England, they were probably heading for New York or Boston to board a ship. If they were leaving Montreal by car, Island Pond, Vermont could be the border crossing location.. being south of Montreal.
