Julie Do you know his actual birth date ? This could help find his death if it was after 1966 as it is listed in the index
I did find a William Newland (his stepfathers surname) who died Barnet Herts (the pub connection) in Oct 1984 aged 92. His birth date was given as 30/1/1892 which fits with the registration of WGT in Farnham in Mar Quarter of 1892 But it is only worth spending money on if that birth date matches your knowledge As for his WW2 record -would he not have been too old -47 when it started?

The information about the person below comes from the 'Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914 to 1919' database, a service provided by The Naval & Military Press through the Military-Genealogy.com web site
He cant of died in the war as the family did see him

Not unless you can confirm the actual date of birth (by sending for his birth cert if you do not already know it)

I only have the dates from the marriage cert so I will send off for the Birth, once it arrives I will send for the death. I wish that my Nan was alive to find out what happened to her father, sadly she died in January.
A 70 year mystery could be a week away from being solved, thank you Gillian for all your time and help, you are a credit to Genes Reunited! I

OK but it is still worth getting his birth cert to see if his actual date of birth is given -then if you post it here we could search with that info for any William George who died with that date of birth
