Hi again Jo
Daniel is recorded as father. To confirm it you would need the baptism record (James is a pre 1837 birth so there isn't a cert)
I will have a look for Daniel in the earlier years and post anything i find.
It might be that none of the things i have found are your family but at least if you have the details you know which to ignore next time!!!

Glen,
Thankyou for your help i will write all this down. So Daniel is James Father, i will look into finding more on him if i can but me and the census just dont get on at all. Have you come across James mum's name at all? As maybe as he had his dad living with him then maybe they were divorced or she has passed away. Thankyou Glen your very kind.

I'm just adding this for reference, best to make a note or print it out for use later if it is relevant
Assuming James and Leah are the parents and the 1881 census posted above is correct this is the same household showing the details for James;
Name: James Stucky Age: 55 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1826 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Leah Father's Name: Daniel Gender: Male Where born: Langport, Somerset, England Civil Parish: St Pancras County/Island: London Country: England Street address: 4 Blandford Pl Condition as to marriage: Married Education:

Source Citation: Class: RG11; Piece: 220; Folio: 21; Page: 36; Line: ; GSU roll: 1341048.
=============
The reference to Langport Somerset seems to suggest this is the marriage of James and Leah

Hi Glen,
I think the first death age 61 would be the better one as in 1891 census was aged 60 and also Islington is where they were living att he time.

There is a chance that the fathers were still alive and the couple claimed to be 21 (and therefore avoid needing parental consent).
Based on the census returns given earlier Elizabeth seems fairly consistent with 1872 as her year of birth so she might have added a few months onto her age.
BUT;
There are two deaths that might be worth considering,
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deaths Mar 1892 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stuckey James 61 Islington 1b 226 Stuckey James 59 Whitechapel 1c 276

Hi,
I got the marriage cert today for my nan's parents, this is what is on the cert.
Isaac Walter Jackson and Elizabeth Stuckey married in Islington on 25th december 1892 both are 21 years old. Isaac is a carman of 48 Wynford road and Elizabeth living at 15 milton grove. Isaac's father is Frederick Jackson (deceased) proffesion cotler? and Elizabeth's father is James Stuckey also deceased was a road labourer. The witnesses are Alice Stuckey and George Stuckey so maybe the census found is right.
Can anyone help more with this please?

Jo, first of all the census returns are only as good as the information given to the enumerator at the time. Many people couldn't read or write, so if the householder said his name was Stuckey, the enumerator would have spelt it he way he thought. Another common mis-spelling is for eg Wallace/Wallis. I know because I have them in my tree. Also many people didn't know how old they actually were, and would say whatever they thought was right. People also lied about their ages (making themselves younger or older as fitted their purpose).
When looking at census returns you must always keep an open mind

Sorry to be a pain but the census searches do they have mistakes.
The 1881 surname is spelt Stucky and the 1891 spelt Stuckey. Also the father James in 55 in 1881 and then 60 in 1891 The mother Leah is 43 in 1881 and then 56 in 1891 and this is for the St Pancra area where the first birth for a Elizabeth was found and the second birth is for Edmonton area. If i had found this i would of thought the first birth would go with the census searches as same area. Isaac Jackson census he is living with the Graham family and not his own but dosent have the first name Walter. Sorry to be a nuisance.

Jo,
Start with the facts you know and work backwards from there. You know the names of the people who married and you have a marriage reference, so start off with that. Apply for the marriage certificate and see what information is shown on it - names of their father's, their father's occupation, address at the time of marriage etc and work backwards from there.
Either one of the birth references could be right - but you will need to find the father's name from the marriage certificate first.

Thankyou Rutland Belle. I wouldnt know what is right or wrong, im not good with the census what so ever.
Rachel thankyou for clearing it up for me so i will ignore the first cert details now. The marriage cert is the 1b 738 reference for both couples who married and i add that and the names when ordering?

My first one for Jane Elizabeth Stuckey could be the one - however, the district is Pancras.
The second one I found shows her name the same as when she married and in the same area (district of Edmonton).
Out of the two entries, I would suspect that the second one would be hers given the place of marriage etc but you would have to find this out.
It maybe an idea to get her marriage certificate to find out the name of her father (which will help you to find her on earlier census')
