I may do that Ann - Just hope uncle can wait that long as he's 90 now. Don't think I'll tell him i'm going to look further into it in case he gets his hopes up. |

The references on the medal card would lead you to the medal roll (only at Kew), which would give his battalion, so you could find out what he was involved in. Only problem is, it wouldn't tell you when he transferred to DLI. You could wait to see if his service records appear on Ancestry first. |

Oh Maureen that definitely sounds more like it. Is it possible to find out more from the regimental number like where he served etc and if so do you know how I go about it. |

Ann, no I have no idea where his service medal would be. Like most people doing this, you decide to do it when most people who could have helped have died. |

Have ruled out the George I was looking at. There is a birth for Elzabeth in 1916 but mothers maiden name does not match |

Do you know if the service records are complete. I've got to say I'm assuming he would have been in the Sherwood Foresters as he was living in Nottinghamshire. Could that be wrong |

He only fathered one child in the war (as far as I know anyway!) and that was my mum Ellen born April 1915 |

His home address would have been Nottinghamshire - probably Beeston but not necessarily |
