Myra, I am glad to have helped. I remember the help people here gave me when I first started here and they found things for me that I had looked for and not found. |

Myra, I checked freebmd between 1861 and 1871 for 4 different spellings of his name, but found nothing. |

If he died, it had to have been between 1861 and 1871. |

The way I have figured it out is that Robert either died or left the marriage, and Rosie was left with the 2 youngest children and ended up in the workhouse. |

I have looked for him on both find my past and ancestry and cannot see him. I also looked on freebmd to see if I could see his death and nothing. He is a puzzel. |

Thinking about it (give me time) he must be about 70 years old. Surely not still stone quarrying! |

Angela - Yes, I did, but couldn't find him. Please go ahead and try. I think he must be there somewhere. |

Christina did you look for Robert in that census? If not I will have a go at it. |

Myra and that can happen too. If you see the two Vine postings I have put up for you which are clearly the same family the Walter is 37 in 1861 and 44 in 1871. People lied about their ages all the time in the census. |

I don't think the 2 Roberts on the 1861 & 1841 census are the same person as on the 1861 his dob is 1799 and on the 1841 census his dob is 1806. |

Myra - I'm typing out the details of the 1871 census, so you can see that it matches quite well with the 1861. |

Me to Claire and if they match I tend to think that the wrong place was written in the census. I have been down many a blind alley trusting birth places on the census. |

I try to look at the age of the children, the occupations & the wife's details as well as the place of birth |

Myra, one of the things I have learned from doing all the research I have is that the information as to birth place on the census is very dubious. I have records which I know are my g grandfather which have him born in at least 3 places. |
