Hi Janice,
Didn't think to get the witness names, didn't know that they could or would be of any use. I will see who's marriage cert it is, but i think that it is Margarets, and that her father was marked as deceased, and I also know that he was a lighterman on the thames, and we were always told that he was killed working on the thames as he jumped between barges. His wife was sent to Claybury Asylum some time after his death. Margaret visited her at Claybury for some time with two cousins i think they were, after her death we are told that noone visited again.

We are trying to look into Catholic records of the time and now suspect that she is purely of Irish descent and may not have been born there.
Also trying to get the lighterman records too

Right we are starting to get somewhere, have found a line that could be the right one but then again as these things go it could be a complete red herring. but what i really want to know i cannot find....
PATRICK possibly aka PADDY
ELIZABETH possibly aka LIZZIE or LIZZY
MARY
JOHN possibly aka JOHNNY.
what happened to these after FEB 1946, the pieces going back are starting to come together POSSIBLY.
JOHN/JOHNNY apparently doted on my mum, she is the image of her mother even at a young age. Yet I CANNOT find him. Either MARY or ELIZABETH lived out in ESSEX towards SOUTHEND at some point in their lives. I can find no trace of them so far, not even so much as a photo. Even though we don't have much that belonged to or even much about MARGARET.
CABLE STREET at the time shortly after she died, there was a shop close by called GREENBON/NES or GREENBAUMS perhaps. I believe that the proprietor/manager was a Jewish lady.
Does anyone remember or know of the shop related to those people because that woman in that shop knew my grandmother when she lived in that area, so much so that she was able to point to the window of a basement and tell two young girls that their mother lived there and what a lovely woman she was.
THE BREWINS of CABLE STREET, apparently the mother of the family had a pair of earrings and they had been my grandmothers, MARGARET'S and on visits she told the two young girls that they had been their mothers earrings. All this happened after 1946 their father used to take them back to the east end to visit family and friends. If anyone out there knows anything please leave a message.

We have sent off for a number of certificates and are waiting to see what they show and see if we are on the right track yet or not, otherwise we will be back to square one as far as Margaret's family is concerned

If there is any possibility that there is anyone out there that has the name GREEN or who's mother or grandmother had the maiden name of GREEN. Please get in touch.
I know now that my mothers Auntie Lizzie was the one that lived out in Essex, somewhere near Southend perhaps?!?
I also know that my Grandmother was born on 19th August 1914 to John Charles and Margaret Green nee Sullivan in Poplar and that she was one of five perhaps even more. I know that her name was also Margaret and that I am awaiting some more certificates that will hopefully give me the dates for her Sister MARY GREEN's birth and her brother PATRICK D GREEN's birth. I know that LIZZY had children that where around about the same age as my mother and her sister. so that would put them in their late 50's to early 70's now. She is so far the hardest to find info on, as there is so little to go on I would love to find someone that knows something.
We now have the date of birth and death of a little baby girl who never made it beyond 2months and died of pneumonia, she was my Auntie Mary my mothers sister.
I have been to the areas in Poplar, Stepney etc. There is very little if anything left of what might have been there when my Grandmother was around. A few crumbling walls a couple of streets away and a few cobbles are all thats left. I saw the stretch of the Thames where my great grandfather is supposed to have met his maker.
I have as yet to find any records that point me in the direction of documentation regarding the death of his wife Margaret Green nee Sullivan. Who we believe survived both her husband and daughter by some years but died in CLAYBURY ASYLUM some time after Feb 1946.
If anyone out there is looking for a Green or a Sullivan please get in touch. You just never know.

We have got the certs that we applied for so far, well my mum has them and now for the first time in her life my mum knows when her mothers birthday was. However we have drawn a blank finding any of her aunts, uncles or cousins at all. If there is anyone out there that knows anything I would love to be able to give her the ultimate birthday present..... just to know where someone is or even that there is someone out there somewhere.
We have been down to poplar and discovered that there is nothing left, we have also been to gaverick street where my mums parents lived and again had we done this 20 years ago there would've been buildings and people that may have known something but now all there is left are a few cobbles and an empty street. Although a few houses were built at one end in the 80's thats all that is there now. The last buildings of Bishop Chaloners School are scheduled to be demolished this year and that will be the last of what may have been there. Both areas are sadly unrecognisable. If there is anyone that can help in anyway no matter how small please please get in touch as soon as possible.
Thanks
